Keong Saik Street is well-known for its buzzing nightlife, and perhaps is not the first location that comes to mind when picking a hotel for your well-deserved staycation. But trust us on this one – venture off the well-trodden staycation path, and take a chance with Naumi Liora, a heritage boutique hotel located right smack in the middle of the Keong Saik action.
The hotel blends right in with the shophouses that characterise the area, and the original timbre flooring, French-style windows and “five foot way” pedestrian walkways have all been preserved, in keeping with the Peranakan character of the hotel. Step into the warmly-lit lobby, and your eyes might be immediately drawn to the Nibbles self-serve snack bar, featuring Nespresso coffee, tea, fancy gem biscuits and popsicles, all available 24/7. Grab a coffee before you leave the lobby, or a popsicle at the end of the day before heading up to your room – it’s the little things like that that we really appreciate.
Naumi Liora’s rooms are divided into three main categories: the Liora Quaint, located on the third floor of the building and featuring high loft ceilings without windows; the Liora Heritage, that come with single or double beds and Nespresso machines in each room, plus a work desk to meet the needs of business travellers; and the Liora Porch, where we spent a night, is the most spacious option, also with Nespresso machines and the luxury of an expansive porch that overlooks the serene part of the Tanjong Pagar/Chinatown area. Our bathroom was compact, but the rain shower and the accompanying Malin+Goetz toiletries added a nice touch.
Spending a night in Keong Saik Street also means being surrounded by a whole selection of hip eateries and watering holes such as Muchachos, Potato Head Folk, The Library, and the Cufflink Club, alongside comforting tze char joints that are perfect for supper sessions. Or if you’re the kind that eats clean and trains mean even when on a staycation, rest assured Naumi Liora has a well-equipped gym that’s open all hours of the day (so you can always fit in a workout session should the post-supper guilt hit you).
So take a chance on Keong Saik, and let yourself sink into the old-world charms of the Naumi Liora.
