Living in Singapore, and especially with the kind of weather we’ve been facing in recent weeks, means it’s a constant battle to keep our makeup from looking like it’s melting off our faces. The beauty industry has given us more than enough help with combating this, though, in the form of waterproof mascaras, melt-proof foundations, so on and so forth.

But we daresay not much attention has been paid to eyeshadow, so when we spotted MAKE UP FOR EVER’s new Aqua Matic eyeshadows, we knew they meant business. With its wax-based formula containing an oil that evaporates upon application, it is both waterproof and smudgeproof. That means whether you get caught in a downpour or absent-mindedly rub your eyes, this eyeshadow isn’t moving one bit. Yes, that also means you can wear it swimming and be the cutest one at the pool.

The 15 shades come in diamond, metallic, iridescent, satiny and matte finishes, so you can choose how much shimmer and shine you want to wear. It applies like a liner and can be easily blended into a shadow, and comes with an in-built sharpener for the retractable eyeshadow stick, making it just about one of the most convenient eyeshadows you can tote around, really.

And since the colours are all so cute, go ahead and wear more than one each time. Here are three ideas on how you can mix and match them:

I30 Iridescent Lime Green + D21 Diamond Light Turquoise

If you’re going to go with a bold colour, might as well match two bold colours. If you’re not ready to wear these as full-on eyeshadows, line your eyes by layering the turquoise on top of the lime green.

ME50 Metallic Golden Taupe + I22 Iridescent Electric Blue

Taupe always works when worn as a wash of colour all over the eyelids. Keep the electric blue as eyeliner and smudge it a little – we would wear this look for a night out.

ME80 Metallic Pink + S60 Satiny Warm Brown

This combination works for an everyday look; plus the metallic and satiny textures ensure there isn’t too much bling going on if you’re wearing this combination for work or school. Apply the pink on the inside corners of the eyelids and keep the brown to the outside, then blend well.

Don’t forget the lips – if you love MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Aqua Rouge waterproof lipstick like we do, because that thing just does not budge no matter how much you’re munching or sipping throughout the day, there are now the two new shades of Cool Candy Pink and Apricot Pink, which are very summery indeed. Wear them matte straight from the applicator or add a shiny topcoat using the brush on the other end, whatever floats your boat. As long as you keep the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Collection close, no matter what the volatile Singapore weather throws at you, you’ll be okay.
