I’m sure everyone can relate to the frustration of not being able to find the perfect something while shopping. For me, it’s a button down Oxford shirt. There’s just something about getting the right fit and texture – it needs to be loose and slightly see-through. For the founders of Arete (pronounced “ahr-i-tay”) it was a constant struggle to find the perfect pair of shoes that were comfortable enough without sacrificing on style. Taking things to their own hands, the pair decided to produce a range of curated goods to satisfy their need for quality over quantity.
The inspiration stems from a windmill, which converts wind into raw energy. Keeping the same concept in mind, Arete Goods uses only raw materials to produce their selection of functional and visually-appealing goods. Manufactured in Spain, their ballet flats are meticulously crafted for maximum comfort down to its last detail, such as the brass caps on the ends of the tassels to prevent them from unraveling. Another item to note is their Uno cardholder, also made in Spain. Stitched together from one piece of leather with fine finishing and neat construction, the minimalistic nature of the cardholder makes it a one of a kind piece.
Their high level of quality does not equate to exorbitant prices. In fact, selling small and seasonal collections in limited quantities helps Arete Goods to eliminate retail mark-ups; maintaining a reasonable price range for their everyday consumers like you and I.
Arete Goods launches on 27th May 2015. You may visit their showroom at Block 1014 Geylang East Ave 3, #02-218 Singapore 389729, by appointment only. www.aretegoods.com.
