Dinner options at River Valley just got more fabulous, people. The Fabulous Baker Boy is known and loved for being that quaint spot at The Foothills of Fort Canning that serves up cafe food for the lunch menu, and a selection of seriously delectable cakes. Now they have a dinner menu as well, and the 22 reasonably-priced options are all comfort food that will warm the stomach and the soul.

For starters, try the Wild Mushroom Salad ($14/$18) for a mesclun salad tossed with sautéed wild mushrooms, all drizzled in a quality aged balsamic dressing (that we were told is homemade) and topped off with a sunny side up. We liked the Duck Confit ($21), a French classic featuring an entire duck leg slow-cooked and baked so that the skin is a nice crisp (we recommend pairing each bite with the accompanying plum compote and mash potato). The Uncle Alvin’s Curry Battered Fish & Chips ($16) was made with delightfully fresh Dory fish, with the spicy batter adding an extra tang to this classic dish. For the carb monsters, zero in straight on the Ju’s Prawn Pasta ($20): tiger prawns and egg pappardelle cooked in a seafood sauce, and the star Chilli Crab Mac and Cheese ($18), a local twist on a familiar American dish – and it really does taste like legit chilli crab, with a good dose of spice. These pasta dishes might be recognisable from the existing lunch menu, and we sure are glad they’re mainstays of the dinner selections as well.

Once you’ve polished off all of that, of course there’s room for Chef Juwanda’s (the Fabulous Baker Boy himself) wide array of cakes. If we had to recommend one, it would have to be the Jacintha ($8.90 per slice), a pandan cream sponge with a cream cheese frosting and gula melaka crumbs. There are at least 16 cake options available on any given day, so you’ll definitely be spoilt for choice.
