Gone are the qualms of lugging an iPod or phone to listen to music as you work out. Sony has launched its Smart B-Trainer that’s waterproof and leaves you conveniently handsfree. On top of that, it can act as your personal trainer.
Combining the latest audio and sensor technology, the Smart B-Trainer has six sensors – heart rate, acceleration, GPS, compass, gyro and barometer, and measures 11 types of running logs – heart rate, burned calories, distance, time, speed, pace, cadence, steps, stride, running route and elevation, all packed into a sleek and nifty neckband-style device.
Its intelligent technology can help you actualise your physical potential and make you stay focused your fitness goals in a directed manner. One such way it does so is its music playback in response to your heart rate; when your heart rate is beyond your targeted speed, it will automatically select a slower song through music tempo analysis by Sony’s 12 Tone Analysis. Alternatively, you can pick a song to suit your mood. The Smart B-Trainer has a 16GB built-in memory and can store up to about 3,900 songs.
Pre and post-workout, check the free Smart B-Trainer for Running smartphone application to manage your running logs and select your training plans.
There are two types of plans – Basic and Premium. The Basic Plan allows you to set running goals manually or select theme-based trainings. The Premium Training Plan lets you select training plans of different levels according to what you’re training for, be it for a marathon or simply running, and you’ll be kept on track by voice instructions to give you the experience of being under a professional coach (rest assured he’ll be more legit a coach than Coach Carr of Mean Girls or Sparky Polastri of Bring It On).
The Premium Training Plan can be used in collaboration with MY ASICS Training Plan which tailors a training programme to your physicality. By keying in your details (current level, sex, age, training frequency) it will give you six phases (e.g. Getting Faster, Going Further) to help you reach your goals. Transfer your running log to the Smart B-Trainer for Running app to see your progress in graphs.
In addition an application will be launched later this year for you to be supervised by Japanese professional running coach, Kin Tetsuhiko. He’ll even give you post-workout pointers so you can know your own progress and plan future regimes.
The Smart B-Trainer, priced at $399, is available for pre-order at all Sony Stores (except at Changi Airport, Terminal 3) and selected authorised dealers until 7 June. It comes with a free 2XU Compression Shorts ($139), redeemable from 11 June-31 July 2015 at Key Power Sports, #02-48 Velocity. The Smart B-Trainer comes in five colours (yellow, white, blue, pink, and black) and will be in all Sony Stores, Sony Centres and Sony authorised dealers from 11 June.
