Ultra Naté was the bomb diggity when she released her dance-pop single “Free” in 1997. It was such a liberating song that we could groove to, then AND now. And on that same thread of liberty, Creative Technology Ltd unveiled the Sound Blaster FRee (we thought it was a typo too at first), the brand’s latest multi-functional portable Bluetooth speaker that comes with two custom-tuned Neodymium drivers and twin passive radiators for an immense, full-range audio (with powerful bass) experience. Depending on your preference, the Sound Blaster FRee can either sit horizontally for wide stereo delivery, or stand vertically for an all round, 360-degree sound. The compact, cylindrical form of this speaker is not only lightweight (0.4kg), but it’s comfortable to hold and small enough to be carried in a bag. There’s a whole range of connectivity options on the Sound Blaster FRee, including wireless Bluetooth for smartphones/tablets, USB for PCs/Macs, as well as an Aux-in jack. It can even be a portable MP3 player to bring along to the pool as it can playback music from a microSD card (up to 32 GB) and is IPX4-certified (splash-proof).

Available in black or white from July on Creative’s online store for US$99.99.

Also, just in case you’re feeling nostalgic…
