It’s only been seven months but OPPO has already unveiled its latest addition to their line of mid-range smartphones, the R-series. The new R7 is a beauty on its own, and doesn’t really steer far from its predecessor, the R5, which was launched late last year. The Chinese electronics manufacturer set out to create a phone to reach to a wider audience, so they decided to throw in a few more features and up their design game. The R7 is made from a single-piece of aircraft-grade aluminium-magnesium alloy and has undergone a 48-step polishing process, resulting in the velvety metallic finish of the phone. It also flaunts a “violin-arc” design that allows the phone to fit perfectly in your palm.

One of the changes you’ll see on the R7 is its size – it’s now 6.3mm thick as compared to the R5, which boasted an ultra-thin 4.85mm silhouette. If you’re not too hard up on thickness, then you’ll barely notice the difference. But overall, the R7 is smaller (143 x 71mm) and has a 5-inch AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 445 ppi. The R7 also has a bigger RAM of 3GB and an 8-core processor for faster performance. Many fans of the R5 were peeved at the lack of expandable storage, so OPPO decided to create a slot for it on the R7, allowing up to 128GB. And if you’re a #selfie person, the front camera has been bumped up from 5-megapixel to 8-megapixel.

The OPPO R7 is available at the OPPO Concept Store (Suntec City Mall, Tower 3, #01-627) in classic silver and celebratory gold, and retails for $569.
