While you’re not exactly passing around a pair of second-hand jeans amongst your closest girlfriends over the summer like Carmen, Lena, Tibby and Bridge in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (when you think about it, it’s actually quite gross to be wearing someone else’s pants), it’s highly likely that you’ll be sharing a luggage or two with your family members (or even lending one to close friends) when they go on their own trips. So why not do it with Rimowa? Besides, their latest initiative means you’ll have a one-of-a- kind luggage that will be easy to spot at the airport’s baggage carousel.

The Rimowa x Art collaboration fuses the brand’s 117-year history and tradition of impeccable craftsmanship and creativity with art. The German premium label taps on Singapore’s art scene and introduces 12 independent designs from local talents – six esteemed personalities who are known in their respective industries, as well as six homegrown creative individuals – with Singapore as the focal point of inspiration. As Singapore celebrates its golden jubilee this year, these personalities and artists are tasked to translate their personal sentiments and interpretations of Singapore’s culture and heritage onto the sturdy and light aluminium-magnesium exterior of the brand’s celebrated series, the Topas Multiwheel®.

If you’ve got some time to spare this month, head down to Rimowa’s Mandarin Gallery store as it’ll be turned into a Pop Art exhibition, showcasing the 12 designs created for the exclusive Rimowa x Art initiative (it’s open to public). And if you’re feeling rich or generous, you can purchase them if you really like the designs. However, only the ones created by the six personalities – Rosalyn Lee, Geoff Ang, Kevin Seah, Keith Png, Leon Foo and Willabelle Ong – will be up for sale, and at $5,000 each! All proceeds will go to Mercy Relief, a local humanitarian Non-Governmeantal Organisation, to help fund disaster relief and sustainable development programmes that they personally carry out for afflicted, underprivileged and poverty-striken communities in the region. Also, if you purchase any of these six cases, you’ll be eligible to receive three times tax exemption on income tax for 2015.

The Rimowa x Art collaboration will exhibit at Rimowa’s Mandarin Gallery store (Meritus Mandarin Hotel, 333A Orchard Road #01-02) until 30 July. rimowaxart.com.sg
