Boston is a city of contrasts. Alongside the glinting skyscrapers stand churches and brownstones that date back to the 19th century, while the hubbub of downtown Boston lies just across the Charles River from the serenity of Cambridge, home to the world’s top universities. It is also one of the most important cities in American political history, which is what led to the city’s forefathers seeing it as the centre of the universe. It may not be as glitzy as New York City or Los Angeles, but Boston holds its own pretty well. And makes for really pretty pictures, too. By Tami Lai.
