August 5, 2015

No NDP tickets? No problem. There’s loads of ways you can get into the golden jubilee hype on 9 Aug without having to elbow your way through the sticky Marina Bay crowds or waving small flags at the Padang. If you’re not picnicking in wait of the fireworks and armour vehicles or sneaking to higher forbidden ground for an airier view, we suggest some of the (rather stylish) following:

100+50 Bands Festival
7 Aug (first set at 3pm, last set at 10pm), 8 Aug (first set at 2.30pm, last set at 10pm), 9 Aug (first set at 2pm, last set at 10pm)
Bedok Reservoir
Free admission

The band festival is back with 50 more acts than last year in celebration of SG50. Yes, there are that many local musicians, and more. The additional 50 are electronic and DJ acts and there will be 13-15 bands performing each day. With acts spanning across all different genres, there’s really something for everyone. Come and discover your local talent that’s rapidly on the rise.

After dinner you could head upstairs to the world’s highest alfresco bar for a 360 view of the island. It’s probably one of the best and most relaxed places to watch the fireworks and aerial display from so you’d want to book your tables early.
