September 29, 2015

We’re almost at the end of September, which only means one thing – Halloween. Year in and year out, Universal Studios Singapore has organised thematic halloween experiences for people who get a kick out of being scared half to death. This year marks their fifth edition, and the Rise of the Blood Moon will unleash familiar urban legends and stories we’ve all heard about before across four haunted houses (three of which are locally-themed) and three scare zones. If you think you’ve seen and heard it all, you’re so so so so wrong. The “True Singapore Ghost Stories: The MRT” haunted house is based on Russell Lee’s popular ghost stories we read while growing up (think pontianaks, toyols, pochongs). And then you have the “Hell House”, basically a paper house with paper dolls (some of which are real) where you end up meeting the devil himself in Hell (super warm inside, plus points for ambience). Or experience a haunted house that hits way too close to home – the “Siloso Gateway Block 50” haunted house (or estate, rather). The worst kinds of haunted houses are the ones that remind you of your own. Picture a swing at a playground moving on its own, Malay, Indian and Chinese zombies/ghosts (they really do look more possessed than infected with the HHN-5 virus), a haunted tuckshop, eerie corridors and void decks… it’s official – Asian ghosts, real or not, are way scarier.

Before you head over to to purchase tickets on select nights between 2nd and 31st October this year, we realised there were a few ghouls that were pretty much embodiments of certain situations we face every other day.
