The Body Shop occupies a special place in our hearts as the brand we have been able to count on for pampering bodycare products (hands up, those of you who like us have been obsessed with the Strawberry range since your early teenage days). But when we saw this latest range, we couldn’t help but feel that the brand has really grown up with us with this one. The Spa Of The World range is the sleekest we’ve seen yet, and it comes with a very cool concept: Each product carries with it the spirit of a beauty ritual from a certain part of the world, and as a range, they all represent rituals from all over the world. So whether you want to treat yourself to detox by some Himalayan charcoal or dip into an Egyptian milk and honey bath and imagine you’re Cleopatra, there’s plenty to pick from:
Ximenia tree of Africa
African Ximenia Scrub, $55.90
The Ximenia trees grow in the woodlands and savannahs of southern Africa, and are known as the “Trees of Life” thanks to their high oleic acid content, which enable them to withstand the harsh desert conditions and therefore boost the skin’s natural barrier against the external environment as well. The African Ximenia Scrub is gentle, and leaves the skin more supple.
Himalayan Charcoal Body Clay, $36.90 and Body Mask Brush, $24.90
Charcoal has the natural ability to attract toxins, as it releases negatively-charged ions, while toxins carry a positive charge. The Himalayan Charcoal Body Clay makes use of this ancient Asian beauty trick to purify the skin – use the Body Mask Brush to apply a thin layer onto the skin, leave to dry for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
Egyptian milk and honey
Egyptian Milk & Honey Bath, $32.90
Basically, this is what what Cleopatra and Nefertiti used to bathe in. The Body Shop has used a plant milk that is highly moisturising and soothing, and mixed it with antioxidant-rich honey. The Egyptian Milk & Honey Bath comes in a powder-to-milk form; just add five scoops to running water to create a bath experience truly fit for a queen.
French Lavender Massage Oil, $30.90
We all know the soothing properties of lavender, but where they’re grown affects the smell and the quality of the essential oil produced as well. The Body Shop has harvested their lavender from France to ensure the high quality of the French Lavender Massage Oil, that can be massaged into the skin for instant relaxation.
Japanese Camellia Cream, $59.90
Camellia oil is also high in oleic acid to make it an extremely rich moisturiser that also strengthens the skin barrier. The Japanese Camellia Cream leaves velvety moisture on the skin, and also perfumes it subtly.
Dead Sea salt
Dead Sea Salt Scrub, $59.90
Salt harvested from the Dead Sea is chock-full of minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium and bromine, and the Dead Sea Salt Scrub comes in large salt crystals to really rid the skin of dead skin cells. Don’t worry about drying out the skin, though – they’ve included a blend of plant oils that help moisturise.
Moroccan rhassoul clay
Moroccan Rhassoul Body Clay, price TBC
Rhassoul clay harvested from Morocco’s Atlas Mountains have been used by the indigenous people for centuries to firm, cleanse and tighten the skin, so apply the Moroccan Rhassoul Body Clay on areas that really need firming, and rinse off with cold water after 10 minutes to maximise its skin-tightening effects.
Thai Lemongrass Massage Oil, $30.90 and Thai Wooden Massager, $29.90
Besides making Thai dishes extra delicious, lemongrass is used a lot in aromatherapy. In the Thai Lemongrass Massage Oil is a blend of nine plant oils that help leave the skin smoother and more supple, while stimulating the senses with the lemongrass scent.
Polynesian Monoi Radiance Oil, $36.90
Monoi is a blend of coconut oil and tiare flowers, and have been used by the Polynesian women for millennia to make their hair and skin glow. Massage the Polynesian Monoi Radiance Oil into damp skin, or comb it through dry hair.
Hawaiian kukui seed oil
Hawaiian Kukui Cream, $59.90
Kukui seed oil is used by Hawaiian women to nurture the skin, due to its exceptionally moisturising properties from its high fatty acid, linoleic acid and vitamin content. Use the Hawaiian Kukui Cream on parched skin to leave it both hydrated and glowing.
