Is the Spring/Summer 16 season really about to be upon us already? As the flurry of fashion weeks happening now inundate the Internet, we identify our favourite beauty looks from the first batch of shows at the recently-concluded New York Fashion Week.

Makeup artist Diane Kendal went for a simple combination of luminous skin and a slightly smudged eye, topped off with a pinkish-nude lip colour. It’s a straightforward, effortless look that requires just the bare makeup essentials.

We love this intriguing idea of lining just halfway across your eyes. If you’re the type who likes your coloured eyeliner, but find that you’re getting into an eyeliner rut, try this. Needless to say, keep the rest of the face simple.

Opening Ceremony

We’ve heard of lip gloss on the lids, but at Opening Ceremony James Boehmer, NARS’ Director of Global Artistry, swiped clear gloss on the nose bridge, cupid’s bow and the high points of the cheekbones as well – he took inspiration from hot house flowers. There’s a fine line between this look and looking plain sweaty, so dab the gloss with caution, use a light touch, and remember to blend well.

For this look, try:

THEFACESHOP Oil Control Water Cushion, $29.90, THEFACESHOP stores; NARS Triple X Lip Gloss, $37, NARS counters; NARS Dual Intensity Blush in Jubilation, $68, NARS counters.

We’re always up for a red lip, but maintaining it throughout the day is undeniably a hassle. That’s why we always love it when makeup artists go for the lived in look – the lip colour looks a bit faded, looking like a few snacks have been eaten in it. A bright poppy, instead of a more grown-up classic red, helps keep this look fun, not messy.

Creatures Of The Wind

English girl rocker Siouxie Sioux and her exaggerated cat-eye flicks were the inspiration behind this look. Do something different with your regular black eyeliner by thickening the line just a tad (don’t go overboard), and drawing the flick at a slightly higher angle. Line under the eyes with a black pencil liner as well.
