October 5, 2015

At the Sephora Holiday 2015 press day last week, there were glorious holiday palettes galore; but it was this particular one from Tarte that shone a little brighter than the rest:

This undisputed star of the collection is the Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case, replete with 30 eyeshadow colours – 24 are all-new and span a whole side of the makeup case, while the remaining six are limited edition shades and are found on a pop-out palette together with a new highlighter, bronzer and blush, double-ended shadow brush and deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara.

Tarte’s Director of Learning, Events and Artistry Laura Filancia was actually there at the Tarte booth, having flown in all the way from NYC to give us a heads up on the almost-painfully pretty Art Deco-inspired pieces in the Tarte Holiday 2015 collection.

We asked her to take us through how to recreate the Holiday look as seen on this Tarte model:

We really like the unexpected bright lips paired with a pretty metallic sheen on the lids; together with a good dose of cheekbone contouring, it all makes for a fun party look that’s a little different from the usual dark lips/glittery eyes.

For this, a matte base is best when it comes to the eyes, says Filancia. Start off with the peach-toned Tartini as a base shade, applying it from the lashline all the way to the browbone. Then, start contouring the lid with Haute Chocolate or the cooler-toned Gingerbread Mansion, depending on which is more suited for your skin tone. For the shine, Baby It’s Gold Outside goes on all over the lids.

From the Bling It On Amazonian Clay Blush Palette, contour with Prim, then add colour with Fetching or Dollface, depending on whether you want a warmer or cooler pink tone. Then, take the Lip Surgence Lip Tint in Emblaze from the Lips For Daze LipSurgence Set and coat the lips in a matte layer of cool crimson to complete.
