October 16, 2015
As they say, the third time’s a charm; only thing is, they’ve managed to hit the spot and grow bigger each year. Yes, it’s that time again where sneakerheads and purveyors of streetwear congregate at a single venue to bask in the atmosphere of Singapore’s premiere sneaker and streetwear convention also known as Sole Superior. Last year’s annual gathering saw more than 2,000 local and overseas attendees sprawled across the entire Zouk Complex and over $20,000 worth of products given away.
This year’s edition, held on 21 November, won’t be too different from last year (after gathering feedback from a respondent survey earlier this year), which means you can expect holy grails, custom kicks and more across Winebar, Zouk’s main room, Member’s Bar, Phuture and Velvet Underground. There’ll also be exclusive product launches, special event day pre-orders (includes a local collab with a global brand that’ll be unveiled on that day), special event merchandise (exclusive one-day sale) in collab with local label/designer Pras The Bandit and designer/illustrator Eric Foenander and the creation of custom-made New Balance sneakers created by artist/illustrator Kristal Melson for Sole Superior 2015.
And of course, which self-respecting local event won’t commemorate SG50 this year? Sole Superior will be holding a special panel discussion to showcase the various Singaporean collabs with global sneaker brands. So if you’ve always had questions like “What’s the collab process like?” or “How does the sketch get materialised and become highly coveted all over the world?”, specially-invited panelists will be on board to answer them and share their experiences with everyone.
Also, on the music front this year, catch a live music showcase by local electronic collective made of young Singaporean musicians, HYBRDTHRY, as well as performances by G-Preme, Mean, Mediocre Haircut Crew, Audiomotive and more.
Sole Superior 2015 will take place on Sat, 21 Nov at Zouk from 1pm to 7pm. Tickets are available online and in store at Limited Edt, Studio@pe,Triad Skateshop, and Seek.
