Paintings, sculptures, films, music, even ironic theme parks, yes, but bags? You wouldn’t usually classify them as art, would you… except, BONIA’s latest bags certainly qualify. Structured, or with floral appliques, and cut from premium Italian leather, this season’s styles are as unique as they are wearable. Most of them have a classic, near artistic slant, especially since the collection’s inspired by his walks about Venice, or the humour and playfulness of Bauhaus, a modernist art movement. It seems like we have new creative director, Pepe Torres, to thank. As an esteemed designer who has held positions at luxury fashion houses, he brings his understanding of European style to the chic designs of BONIA’s AW15/16 collection.
And there’s one for every occasion:
For Your Weekdays
Bonnie – the modern minimalist
Be prepared for admiring stares on your work commute. The architectural shape and oversized tassels elevate it above your average work bag, and somehow, you’d wanna show it off during the weekends as well.
Wear it with: A pencil skirt, but keep it interesting with pinstripes or colourblocking elements. A midi skirt adds some softness to the look, and it’s great for both the weekdays and weekends.
For Your Weekend
Sonia with Floral Appliques — the dainty crossbody
Everyone who knows BONIA would recognise this instantly. This season, the Sonia is updated with these intricate floral appliques, making this the most girly version yet. With its smaller size, you only need to pack just the essentials, and you’re good for a clutter-free weekend. Perfect for cafe-hopping and good brunch.
Wear it with: We see this paired with a light eyelet frock and sandals, at an outdoor festival or picnic, but go ahead with a cropped top and a pair of culottes as well – but in neutral, nude tones or pastel. The key is to keep it casual.
For Your Casual Day Out
Alexa — the versatile bucket bag
We bet this goes with everything, though the top handle makes this popular silhouette stand our from other similar styles. Take this one on a lunch date with your girl friends, a weekend trip to the museum, or if you’re headed to Orchard Road for a bit of shopping.
Wear it with: Anything goes, but we think this would look great with a shirt-dress, or ripped jeans and boots. As it comes in muted shades, don’t be afraid to put on some colour too: a graphic print top, or bright-pink lippie would be nice.
From Day To Night
Annelise — the girly chic
With bright shades and a panel of blossoms under the flap, it’d be a fun (read: not boring) addition to your work attire, and perfect for after-work drinks with your girl friends too. Even if you’re the kind who favours minimalist designs, you’ll have to admit that the floral details give the bags a nice, unique texture.
Wear it with: With an added chain, it looks like something you’d wanna carry with a sleek, chic outfit, complete with sky-high stilettos.
Additionally, you won’t wanna miss out on BONIA’s pop-up event. From 1 – 22 October, Takashimaya Department Store will be transformed into a beautiful Venetian street, complete with lamp posts and sketches of Venice’s old town.
