Everybody’s looking to up their pop culture game, so we’ve been seeing lots of Star Wars mash-ups, Disney collabs, and yes, even movies based on 90s video games. That said, here’s one we haven’t seen in a while: Casper, the friendly ghost. If you’re a legit pre-2000s kid, we’re guessing the catchy jingle should get stuck in your head right about now.
Like a ghost from the past, the affable cartoon character is being revived by Lazy Oaf, with designer Gemma Shiel gaining exclusive access to Dreamworks archives of comic strips and fifties book covers in order to dream of this collection.
The silhouettes reference the 90s cult movie, complete with Victorian flourishes, ribbons and lace across the smock dresses, t-shirts and shirtdresses. Add the fact that everything’s monochrome, in tones of pale white and macabre black, along with clever floaty frills and a bit of translucent panels, and we’ll say, they got the reference down perfectly.
And it’s just in time for Halloween too. Booyah!
Lazy Oaf x Casper, from $18 for socks to $149 for dresses and jumpers, available from end October at Actually orchardgateway #03-18.
