One, two… Buckle my shoe… Or so the nursery rhyme goes, except now, it’s quite a reality. If you’re thinking prim Mary Janes or ankle strap heels though, you might be disappointed. We’re talking about sneakers, in particular, the ones in Christopher Kane’s first-ever sneakers range.
Joining the popular fashion trend, these combine a practical, flexible sports shoe aesthetic with that of luxury fashion footwear. And similar to the designer’s signature pieces, they come in an array of contrasting colours and prints, neon, and that key element – a safety buckle and elastic band that we’ve seen before in his other collections.
“My philosophy has always been to create collections and products that are new and exciting, and that challenge perceptions. For my first sneakers collection I wanted a shape that was clean and minimal, and could be worn by all ages. Balancing sportiness and fashion, they are easy to pull on with jeans or an evening dress. I really wanted to create a classic that retained a strong brand identity,” says Kane.
The sneakers will be launched exclusively at NET-A-PORTER. Made in Italy, there are both men’s and women’s styles, and these low top and high top pieces are made of neoprene and cut to appear as a single piece, which adjust perfectly to the foot. The broque low top, available to the women only, comes in the brand’s signature lace print and a navy pony skin.
