Take a trip down the path of our ancestors in Amoy Hotel. The award-winning boutique hotel celebrates the heritage of our Chinese ancestors – it’s the only local hotel to integrate a museum that traces the footsteps of the early immigrants from China and it’s situated among historical shophouses that, having been standing for more than 170 years, have been conserved with the theme, “Old Meets New, East Meets West”.
At the beginning of this year, the hotel was awarded Top Hotel in Singapore and Best Hotel for Service in Singapore, based on traveller reviews.
As you stand in Amoy Hotel, you’ll be right where the early migrants first landed along Singapore’s shoreline. And as you walk into the hotel, you’ll be met with Fuk Tak Chi, Singapore’s pioneer street museum, former temple and headquarters for the Hakka and Chinese communities in the 1800s. The temple was the first thing the forefathers built on their arrival here to honour the gods for their safe voyage.
There’s two types of rooms – the Cosy Single Room and the more spacious Deluxe Double Room. Each room is unique and decorated to reflect the life of the early Chinese immigrants, though maintaining a modern comfort and familiarity of technology. Traditional Chinese stools and porcelain basins adorn each room and every door is emblazoned with a Chinese family name in homage to the area’s early inhabitants.
The 37-room hotel is smoke-free and is a two-minute walk from Telok Ayer MRT Station and 10 minutes from Chinatown, The Central Shopping Mall and Boat Quay.
Amoy Hotel is located at 76 Telok Ayer Street. For reservations, email firstname.lastname@example.org. More info at stayfareast.com.
