hand creams

December 8, 2015

The lack of cold weather in Singapore might make hand cream a nice-to-have treat instead of a must-have guard against harsh dry air, but we believe in treating ourselves to some really nice hand cream all the same. These options might be pricey, but we promise they’ll make a nice perk-me-up you can keep in your purse or on your office desk, and that they’ll make you want to keep smelling your hands after.

Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

Kiehl’s wasn’t kidding when they put “Ultimate Strength” in the name of this hand cream – it definitely is one of the richest hand creams we’ve seen on local beauty shelves. We suggest making this your best friend whenever you’re headed to a cold country, since the formula is a rich, highly moisturising one that contains a wax obtained from olive oil, plus a blend of other botanical oils like avocado oil and sesame oil. Which makes it smell divine as well.

$45, available at Kiehl’s stores.

Jurlique Citrus Hand Cream

This is another rich hand cream that also happens to smell really, really good. Jurlique does a number of hand cream scents including Lavender and Rose, but the Citrus one has our pick for its refreshing tartness. We’ve done a Jurlique hand massage using these hand creams before, and we couldn’t stop sniffing our hands after.

$86, available at Jurlique counters.

The History of WHOO Gongjinhyang Hand Cream

history of whoo

We don’t get many hand creams with Oriental medicinal properties, but luxury Korean brand The History of WHOO is all about bestowing upon us the beauty secrets of the royal beauties of old anyway. Like the rest of the Gongjinhyang range, this hand cream contains a herbal blend that includes wild ginseng and cordyceps, to both moisturise and revitalise the skin on the hands.

$40, available at The History of WHOO counter at TANGS at Tang Plaza.

Ashley & Co Soothe Tube in Tui & Kahili

ashley and co

This New Zealand brand does the most intriguing mix of scents; their signature Tui & Kahili, with ginger, lily, sandalwood and ylang ylang, is a prime example. Their Soothe Tube hand creams contain shea butter, chamomile extract and Vitamin E for all of the moisture with none of the greasiness.

$32, available at the kapok store at National Design Centre.

KORA Organics Daily Hand Cream

A hand cream that’s Miranda Kerr-approved: KORA Organics is the natural beauty brand started by the Australian model. This one contains an anti-aging mix of lavender, pomegranate, rosehip and olive oil that softens the skin, as well as forms a protective barrier around it to prevent further moisture loss. Also, the light blue tube is really pretty.

US$55, available on net-a-porter.com.

Rodin Luxury Hand and Body Cream

Rodin is the authority in luxury facial oils, and turns out they make a pretty luxurious hand cream too. It smells of jasmine and neroli essential oils – the neroli oil also helps with restoring skin elasticity. The price tag may be hefty, but at least this doubles up as a body cream as well.

US$89, available on net-a-porter.com

BYREDO Hand Cream in Bal D’Afrique

Bal D’Afrique is one of BYREDO’s headier scents, with notes like bergamot, lemon, neroli and Moroccan cedarwood. As a hand cream, it’s also worth trying, if you don’t mind getting a little adventurous with how your hands smell.

$50, available at escentials.
