December 10, 2015

How can we not agree that this is the season to be jolly, especially when we finally have the time to meet up with old friends and relatives who come back for the holidays? Then again, some of you would probably be packing your bags and jet-setting off to somewhere magical for a white Christmas, or a boozey New Year. Whatever the 2015 holidays are to you, one thing’s for sure – you’ll be making great memories with people that matter. and more likely than not, you’ll want to be able to relive those moments once you’re back in the daily grind (read: wanderlusting at work). So to help you, Nikon unveiled their new hybrid camera, the Nikon 1 J5.

It straddles between being a high-end DSLR and a consumer grade point-and-shoot camera by taking the best of both worlds. The Nikon 1 J5 is basically a powerful point-and-shoot camera without the traditional mirror box of DSLRs, making it light, compact and handy for travelling. This 20.8-megapixel camera shoots at a frame rate of 20fps with an exceptionally short shooting time lag. Combine that with the built-in advanced autofocus system of 171 points that has 105 phase-detection AF points, and you’ll never miss that precise moment you were trying to capture. Also, selfies and wefies – holidays wouldn’t be complete without this now- mandatory compulsion. Nikon makes it easy by including a tilting touch screen LCD monitor, a first in the Nikon 1 series.
But while still images tell a thousand words, it can’t fully reflect the degree of impact that a video can. The Nikon 1 J5 – small and petite as it is – has the ability to record 4K movies of up to 10 minutes. You can even create time-lapse videos, a feature that’s included in the camera for creative video recording. At the end of the trip, share these images and videos with your friends via Wi-Fi.

So whether or not you’re taking photos of your delicious meals, a spectacular landscape overseeing the land beneath you, or taking videos of silly moments with friends, know that you have a powerful piece of technology in your hands to help you reminisce the good times while you go back to reality for the next 11 months, waiting for that next holiday.
