The Facial Mists You Should Be Taking Onto The Plane

Aeroplane skin is the worst. Thanks to the incredibly drying air inside a plane, by the time it’s taxied onto the runway and we’re all ready to disembark and begin our long-awaited holiday, our face has become quite an oil slick. If that doesn’t quite make sense to you, it’s because our skin is driven to produce more oil in response to the extra dry air – and that’s why after a long flight, you feel especially in need of a good shower.
Air travel restrictions on the liquid and aerosols you can have in your carry-on bags might have discouraged you from bringing along your skincare and makeup essentials onto the plane; we completely understand, because we definitely don’t want to have to dispose of a precious bottle of our favourite product at security check. But the guidelines actually state that you’re allowed liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of up to 100ml capacity, and they need to be placed in a transparent, re-sealable bag not exceeding 1 litre in capacity, and only one of these bags is permitted per passenger. That means that we still have quite a number of options for what can be carried on, since there are still a good number of products that fall within a volume of 100ml.
And if there’s one thing that should definitely be in your carry-on bag, it’s a facial mist. Simply because it’s the quickest way to keep your skin hydrated as compared to a regular moisturiser, and is a lot more discreet than a face mask (which might scare your unwitting fellow passengers). We’ve picked out a few facial mists that fall safely within the 100ml category, so pack these along for your next flight out.

Allies Of Skin Molecular Saviour Toner Mist (50ml)

allies of skin

Up-and-coming local skincare brand Allies Of Skin has finally launched two new companions to their much-lauded 1A All-Day Mask, this mist and the 1A Overnight Mask, to form the 24/7 Kit. The alcohol-free formula ensures this toner isn’t at all drying (really the last thing you need on the plane), and has a potent botanical oil blend of damask rose, palmarosa, juniper berry and cucumber seed to calm the skin down, and an anti-bacterial ferment also helps with breakouts. It also doesn’t evaporate, thanks to the pure rose water boosted with a heavier molecular weight, so the skin gets all the calming benefits of the rose water.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream All-Over Miracle Oil (100ml)
elizabeth arden

Elizabeth Arden’s most famous product is the multitasking Eight Hour Cream, which is known to be able to soothe almost any kind of skin irritation. And now, it comes in a oil form that you can spritz on! The handy thing about this one is you can use it on your hair and body as well, because it’s obviously not only the skin on your face that gets dry in mid-air. There are plenty of skin-nourishing oils in it, such as Tsubaki oil from the camellia flowers of Jeju Island, grape seed oil, avocado oil, and sunflower seed oil.
$53, Elizabeth Arden counters.

Botáni Australia Soothing Facial Mist (50ml)
botani australia

If you like your beauty products all-natural, Botáni Australia is a Melbourne-based brand that launched here early this year. The key ingredient in all their products is olive squalene, a moisturising ingredient that mimics squalene, the skin’s natural moisturising agent. This toning mist smells of rosewater and chamomile, and is suitable for sensitive skin as well.

ETUDE HOUSE Moistfull Collagen Facial Mist (50ml)
etude house

We’re fans of ETUDE HOUSE’s Moistfull Colllagen range, and at the start of this year, they made it even better with the new Aqua Stream Complex ingredient that helps to keep all the moisturising agents you put on your skin flowing continuously within the skin, so the skin stays hydrated for longer. We like the scent of this range too, so we’ll be spraying this mist on as often as we can.
$22.90, ETUDE HOUSE stores.

This Works In Transit Spray-On Moisture (100ml)
in transit

The whole of This Works’ In Transit range is made to soothe skin stressed out by extended time spent on-the-go, and this is the moisture mist that uses plant oils and active ingredients to calm down the skin. It’s so gentle that it’s suitable for sensitive skin and even children and babies, and the organic aloe vera water even helps to treat inflamed skin.
