…because we all need a little something to be excited about today. These new trailers just came out over the past week (and some a few hours ago at the MTV Movie Awards), which gives even more insight to the superhero/anti-hero/villain/epic space opera/magical films we’re all looking forward to. MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

It seems like 2016 has become the year where we’re all forced to pledge our allegiance to our favourite superheroes/villains, be it Superman, Batman, Iron Man, Captain America, the X-Men or Apocalypse. Very tough decision indeed. Marvel’s Captain America: The Civil War follows the events after The Avengers: Age of Ultron (we all remember how that turned out, right?). The government’s looking to regulate these superhuman activities, but obviously the blue and the red don’t see eye-to-eye (we now know Spidey’s on Iron Man’s team). Also, you might wanna check out this clip that made its debut at the MTV Movie Awards show this morning (you can see how well Scarlet Witch, Falcon and Captain America work as a team).

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Some fans agree that the X-Men:The Last Stand wasn’t as great as they hoped it would be; the film did not do justice to one of the most popular X-Men story arcs, “the Dark Phoenix Saga”. But ever since Days of Future Past, the timeline has been reset and we get to see Jean Grey and Cyclops again. Even the post-credits stinger was epic! Director Bryan Singer follows up on where he left off with the new X-Men: Apocalypse, which features a supervillain whose powers trace back to old Egypt. Set in 1983, he and his four horsemen plan to take over the world, unless of course, the X-Men can stop them. With the soft reset of the X-men universe timeline, who knows what other story arcs Bryan will throw in, especially with the new, younger Cyclops (played by Tye Sheridan) and the return of Jean Grey (played by Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner). We must say, Olivia Munn is looking damn good as Psylocke!

SUICIDE SQUAD

Yes, Ben Affleck will be reprising his role as Batman in the upcoming film, Suicide Squad (you can actually catch a glimpse of him in this trailer, if you look close enough). This band of misfits includes some of the biggest villains in DC. They’ve been released from prison and teamed up by the government to go on a mission to take on an “enigmatic, insuperable” entity. Obviously that’s not going to go down very well, especially after witnessing a chase scene between Batman and Jared Leto’s Joker in this trailer. Harley Quinn is also given quite a significant amount of screen time (just like the previous trailer), and we’re convinced that Margot Robbie will put on a good performance. Can’t wait!

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

Harry Potter fans, unite! Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them takes place 70 years before the famed Harry Potter even enrolls into Hogwarts. This upcoming spin-off stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, who actually wrote the book on which the title of this movie is based. There’s no clear plot per se, but it seems it’s gonna start with the story of how Newt got expelled from Hogwarts, even though Dumbledore argued strongly against it. After arriving in New York for a quick stop over, he finds himself tangled in the magical wizarding world of New York. While there are a lot of references to the Harry Potter saga (ahh the music brings so much nostalgia), we do hope we get to see more beasts in this film. It’s also J. K. Rowling’s first foray into screenwriting, and the first installment of a trilogy, so hold on to your seats!

ROGUE ONE : A STAR WARS STORY

We’ve already waxed lyrical about the trailer when it came out on Friday night, but we just can’t get enough of it. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a spin-off from the epic space soap opera, which sees the events that take place just before the original film trilogy. It tells the story from the perspective of the rebellion and shows Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones) being recruited by the rebellion to find out about a mission test (enter the Death Star) and how they can destroy it. This will probably unravel the story of how the Death Star plans were stolen, only to end up in the hands of Princess Leia (the big mystery in Star Wars: A New Hope). We also see the return of Mon Mothma, one of the most iconic women characters in the Star Wars universe. Everyone remembers her as the leader of the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, whose screentime lasted lass than two minutes. Mon Mothma was also slated to appear in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, but that scene didn’t make the final cut. This time, they’ve casted the same actress, Genevieve O’Reilly, who will play the role that was originally portrayed by Caroline Balkiston. Exciting times.
