Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air

There seems to be a lot of mimicking going around in the tech industry these days. If Instagram’s new “stories” feature is a near duplicate of Snapchat’s My Story, you could say the same for the Mi Notebook Air. Xiaomi’s first Windows 10 laptop is a spitting image of Apple’s Macbook Air at first glance, even borrowing the “book” and “air” from its name.

So, what can consumers expect from this gorgeous-looking product? Well, layout-wise, there are plenty of similarities between the Mi Notebook Air and Apple’s Macbook Air. First off, both laptops are seductively sleek, with their attractive aluminium bodies and clean designs.

In terms of measurements, both laptops are similar too, but the Mi Notebook slightly shades it in this department. For instance, the 13.3-inch Notebook Air measures 14.8mm thick and weighs 1.28kg, and is thinner and lighter than the 13.3-inch MacBook Air. However, Xiaomi’s 12.5-inch Notebook Air has a thickness of 12.9mm and 1.07kg, almost like the 12-inch Macbook Air’s 13.1mm thickness and 0.92kg weight.

That being said, the Mi Notebook Air series isn’t just all style without substance. The 12.5-inch model has a Intel Core M3 processor, 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD under its belt, whereas its 13.3-inch cousin can boast of an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. In addition, there’s also a formidable NVIDIA GeForce 940MX dedicated graphics card stashed inside to boot. Great if you’re a gaming enthusiast or serious designer.

Generally, the Mi Notebook Air is a high quality product that isn’t too expensive. While hardcore Apple fans may rage over the fact that most of its design isn’t original, there’s no doubting that this laptop has what it takes to claim at least a substantial slice of the overall market share pie.
