When it comes to seasons , the closest thing we’ve got to fall here in the Lion City is the monsoon season. We’ve seen the runways, and spent hours ogling at voluminous knits and coats. Yet, we can already predict the impending sensation of a heat stroke if we give in to these snug cover-ups. Believe us, we know the pain of having to dress in last season’s forgotten looks through the whole year. And we believe we’ve finally cracked the code as to how to stay in style this fall without giving in to the weather.
L – R : Asos Tiered Frill Cape, $54.30; Kleeaisons Hi-Lo Cape Jacket, $59.90; Forever21 Tigermist Cape Blazer, POA.
If you’re one of those who’ve sworn off wearing an outerwear, you might want to give it a second thought. Capelets are the perfect alternative to chunky coats. We’ve found that with this cropped kimono silhouette, sophistication and comfort can go hand in hand.
L – R: Zara Velvet Dress, $49.90; Asos Velvet Slouch Wide Leg Trousers, $76; Pomelo Maison Velvet and Lace Camisole, $44.
We’ve seen velvet make a comeback to the fashion scene so many times, we’ve lost count. We can only conclude that designers just can’t get enough of this timeless, luxurious material. This season, velvet makes a grand entrance in eye-striking colours along the likes of maroon, pink and midnight blue. Keep things breezy with a velvet slip dress, or pull off your favourite button-up with glamorous velvet trousers and see where the touch of luxe takes you.
L – R : Asos Love Crop Top With Long Fluted Sleeves, $39.10; Etsy Long Fringe Cover Up, $358.30; Nastygal Kimono Possible Cape Top, $56.
Now here’s where things get a little tricky. We all want to “go big or go home’ with billowing sleeves like Kanye and Rihanna without it being impractical under the scorching sun. Look for these exaggerated sleeves on cropped tops or loose knitwear to cheat the system the next time you find yourself caught in between style and comfort.
L – R : GAP Sleeveless Ribbed Turtleneck, $22.99; Forever21 Turtleneck Sweater Dress, POA; Asos Sleeveless Top With Turtle Neck In Directional Rib, $20.65.
Turtlenecks are big this season, as with any other year. We have to admit, it can always get a little stuffy under these neck-hugging essentials, but going sleeveless aways helps us retain our sunny disposition against this even-sunnier habitat we call home.
L – R : Zara Pinafore Dress With T-Shirt, $34.90; Pomelo Aniya Grommet Midi Jumper, $44; Asos Boohoo Embroidered Faux Suede Pinafore Dress , $54.30.
We love re-visiting our school-girl days with this classic embodiment of sweet-natured femininity. Sure, the idea of layering up can seem intimidating. But we can never go wrong pairing a pinafore with a lightweight button-up to achieve that slouchy chic look. Now that’s effortless styling at its best.
