3-D printing is often tied to with the worlds of architecture, medicine, art, and as of late, fashion. It’s essentially a process in which a material, either plastic or metal, is printed down on a surface, layer by layer, to create a three-dimensional object. You probably wouldn’t think of the beauty industry when you think of 3-D printing. Well, that’s about to change. Smashbox Cosmetics is taking 3-D printing technology to your lips.
To celebrate Smashbox’s launch of 120 new Be Legendary Lipsticks, they’re letting their customers take part in the brand’s #BeLengendary Lipstick Matching Game. Customers will have to go to smashbox.com and select their favourite shades to receive a redemption code for a free 3-D printed lipstick with any purchase they make. They will then transform the colour into any design your heart desires: kiss prints, signatures and even your social media handles. That customised design is then transferred to a portable compact, so you can take it along with you anywhere you please and it can be easily applied with a lip brush.
We’re super psyched about this beauty breakthrough. Unfortunately, this only applies to those who live in the U.S. So, there goes our hopes and dreams, guys.
What we’ll be doing now is hope that other beauty brands catch on to the 3-D printing technology and bring us some amazing customisable makeup.
