October 3, 2016
One of the most stressful situations to be in: desperately trying to book your ride to an event you cannot be late for – such as a flight, or a friend’s wedding ceremony – but having simply no cars or taxis respond to your frenzied booking attempts. We’ve been there: wedding’s starting in 30 minutes, but we’ve been trying to get a car or taxi for 15 minutes and counting to no avail. Or another familiar scenario: trying to get to the airport at 3am in the morning, but all the cars and taxis seem to have disappeared from your neighbourhood. Ugh.
We can all do with a lot less of that kind of panic in our lives, so as frequent Uber users, this latest update to the service is definitely cause for celebration. From today, 3 October 2016, it’s possible to schedule your Uber ride up to 30 days in advance.
It’s as simple as selecting the uberX option and tapping the “Schedule A Ride” button that will now appear above it. Set your desired pickup details and your destination, then hit “OK” to confirm. The app will send you two rounds of reminders, the first 24 hours before your scheduled pickup, and then 30 minutes before.
Keep track of your scheduled rides under the “Trips” tab, and should you need to edit or cancel your scheduled ride for whatever reason, you can still do so up to 5 minutes before. This function currently only accepts credit card payments, and for trips to the airport, but not from.
Update your Uber app to use this new function from today, and the next time you need to get to a wedding or your next flight out of the country, you’ll be able to save on that extra 15 minutes of buffer time set aside just for booking your ride. Breathe easy.
Uber is available for free download from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Windows Store.
