New Liquid Lipstick Obsession: The Bourjois Rouge Edition

Here’s a little lesson in French: Bourjois, which refers to that classy yet youthful Parisian makeup brand that was our supply of quality makeup at pocket-friendly prices. No wonder we grew up with so many of their products; this month, Bourjois re-debuts with a bang, and as it turns out, it’s still as modern as ever.
The first ever blush we bought was the Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in the shade Rose D’Or, a little pot of a light pink cheek colour in a slightly shimmery baked texture. Straightforward, yet it met all our teenage makeup needs; in the following years, the brand continued to be part of our makeup stash, as we dabbled in other Bourjois iconics like the Healthy Mix Foundation.
Growing up, we’ve always known the brand as a drugstore and department store mainstay, easily accessible both in terms of price and location. Then, it got somewhat quiet some time ago, and we mourned a little as the products got harder to find. But now, there’s reason to celebrate: because we’re going to be seeing a whole lot more of Bourjois soon enough, and this time, it’s got a whole bunch of new offerings to help us stay on trend, makeup-wise.
In terms of beauty trends, matte lips aren’t going away anytime soon, so we’re still embracing them full on – and Bourjois is giving us options, with two different types of matte. Whether you like it soft and sheer, worn as just a veil of colour, or bold, bright and saturated, there’s something for you in the Bourjois Rouge Edition range.

The Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet is made for matte beginners, or any time you’d rather something subtler. It goes on sheer, colouring the lips softly with a lightweight fluid texture that dries velvety matte, yet keeps the lips hydrated. There are eight shades in this range, all extremely wearable, that leave a just-bitten effect on your lips; we also recommend applying the colour on the centre of the lips to nail that popular gradient lip look.

And for the times you want your lip colour to speak volumes, there’s the Rouge Edition Velvet, which took the beauty world by storm when it was first launched, as the first gloss-lipstick hybrid formula in the market. The whopping selection of 17 shades includes some truly standout ones, and you know the colour payoff will be intense – the tones have been enhanced with colour-brightening pure pigments. It dries velvety matte, yet you’ll barely feel it on your lips; importantly, it’ll last through the day and all your meals.

Going by just these two items, we already can’t wait to be seeing a whole lot more of Bourjois at our favourite beauty retailers. We’re definitely stocking up first on the Rouge Edition Velvet and Souffle de Velvet, just so we’ll have a matte lippie for every occasion – next on the list, the very nostalgic Little Round Pot Blush, probably.
