October 6, 2016
What, is Christmas season about to upon us again? Yes, as with every passing year, the months seem to be flying with greater and greater speed; and just when we felt like we wrapped up 2015, we’re approaching the tail end of 2016 already.
We choose not to mourn how the years are passing us by, because there’s one very big upside to approaching the end of each year: all the Holiday makeup collections! It’s an impressive selection this year, so our advice is to definitely set aside a tidy sum from your year-end bonus for these.
Aesop Gift Kits 2016
The theme this year is “Pursuits of Passion”, featuring illustrations by Norwegian artist Bendik Kaltenborn of the great outdoors and six famous naturalists. The six kits include a skincare set, one for the hair, and the rest for Aesop’s iconic famous bodycare products like the hand cream and body balms. But really, they could put anything inside these boxes and we’ll still want them – just look at the gorgeousne picture above.
$101 to $244, available at Aesop signature stores and on aesop.com from November.
Dior Holiday 2016
No specially designed palettes for Dior this year, but the magic is really in how they’ve dressed up the packaging of iconics like their lip and nail colours. To us, the pièce de résistance has to be the Diorific Matte Fluid liquid lipstick, which comes all dressed up in an opulent bottle with a rounded gold cap. If you’re keen on wearing the gold on your skin instead, you need to get your hands on the Diorific Splendor pressed powder, and the Diorblush in Splendor, a warm apricot with gold shimmer flecks.
$42 to $105, available at Dior Beauty stores from 15 Oct, and all Dior counters from 27 Oct. dior.com/beauty
Kiehl’s Jeremyville Holiday Collection
OMG, how cute is this? You might have seen Jeremyville’s illustrations here and there – this New York artist has worked with many other big brands like Disney, Swatch, Uniqlo and Urban Outfitters, and his signature style features kooky human and animal characters that never fail to evoke cheer. Continuing Kiehl’s tradition of working with artists to design its holiday collection packaging, Jeremyville’s Christmas-themed illustrations will cover the brand’s most famous products. You get to customise your own gift sets too!
From $17, available at Kiehl’s stores and counters from November. kiehlstimes.com
Clé de Peau Beauté Collection les Années Folles
Clé de Peau Beauté sure is going strong with the whole Roaring Twenties theme this year. Following the Tamara Lempicka-themed Autumn/Winter makeup collection a few months back, the brand has partnered up with American artist Ashley Longshore, who has often been compared to the great Andy Warhol, to cover the holiday palettes with her art deco illustrations. As always, the colours and packaging are breathtaking and incredibly sophisticated, but the one thing to look out for is undoubtedly the limited edition La Crème jar with the aurora colours.
$95 to $875, available at Clé de Peau Beauté counters from November. cledepeau-beaute.com/si
M.A.C Nutcracker Sweet
The nutcracker, a classic Christmas emblem, gets a super fun and very pink makeover for M.A.C’s take on Christmas 2016. Expect lots of pinkish shades for the makeup colours themselves too – which makes it all very wearable – and you’ll want to get them as a kit, or in one of the heart-stopping palettes.
$31 to $120, available at M.A.C stores and counters from November 4. maccosmetics.com.sg
NARS x Sarah Moon Holiday Collection
The dreamy images on the packaging were shot by fashion photographer Sarah Moon just for the brand, to explore the idea of femininity. The colours in this collection are unabashedly feminine as well, with reds taking centre stage. In typical NARS fashion, the wearability of these colours have already stolen our hearts, and we think anyone will really appreciate being on the receiving end of any of the gift sets.
Available at NARS counters from November 1. narscosmetics.com
Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Sparkle Clash Collection
If you like your Christmas trinkets sparkly, you’ll get all the sparkle you want in this collection that’s quite literally dazzling. As always the Palette Collector is the star of the show, filled with glamorous eye and lip colours; you’ll also want to collect the Rouge Pur Couture Collector Sparkle Clash Edition lipsticks, because these bullets come with stars embedded in them, and are all dressed up in gold and silver meteors on the outside.
$39 to $129, available at Yves Saint Laurent Beauté stores and counters from November. yslbeauty.com/en-sg
