Since the advent of selfie-perfecting photo filters – all made to bestow upon us flawless skin, genetics be damned – beauty products have started branding themselves as photo filter replacements. As in, smear them on, and your skin will look as good as its filtered version, no app and painstaking photo editing required.
So the new NYX #NoFilter Finishing Powder isn’t exactly groundbreaking; we’ve definitely seen and tried similar products before. NYX’s version comes as a baked powder, with a slight shimmer to it. Dust a fluffy brush over the surface, and the bristles come away coated with an ultra-fine skin-toned powder, as fine as loose powder particles.
When we brushed it over our entire face as the last step of makeup to set everything in place, our skin was immediately mattified. And it’s obviously a lot more convenient to use than a loose powder – take note, messy people.
But we realised this powder’s best benefits later on in the day, hours after we applied it, when people started commenting on how glow-y our skin was looking. And also at the end of the day, when we looked into the mirror and realised that our makeup was still pretty much intact, with the shine significantly reduced as compared to the pre-#NoFilter Finishing Powder days.
We used to complete our makeup with a generous dusting of loose powder and several spritzes of makeup setting spray, but now, it just takes one dusting of this finishing powder to get an even better effect. We expect to hit pan pretty soon – and as beauty hoarders will know, that is an accolade reserved for only the best of the best. And looks like this is set to become one of our best beauty discoveries of the year.
