Only in Japan can you take something as ubiquitous as an egg and turn it into an international sensation. With its oddly relatable outlook on life and adorable facial expressions (oh, and don’t forget that butt), Gudetama has invaded everything from our Facebook feeds to our WhatsApp chats as a concise way to express our done-ness with life. We’ve seen stores like Uniqlo put the character on clothes before, and now Hong-Kong based retailer i.t has jumped on the bandwagon with their new :CHOCOOLATE x Gudetama collection.
Available in women’s, men’s and even kid’s sizes, the collection features a variety of Gudetama-centric designs on tees, sweaters and hoodies (perfect for the rainy days we’ve been having recently). We’re particularly fond of the embroided shirt, which allows us to rock a formal look while still showing a little love for the egg.
If you ever wanted to deck yourself in Gudetama from head to toe, you now can with the collection’s assortment of caps and socks, and there’s even a backpack that’s guaranteed to turn heads with its 3d rendition of the character.
The :CHOCOOLATE x Gudetama collection will be launched next Wednesday, the 25th of January at i.t’s Orchard Central outlet, and Shirley Wong AKA Little Miss Bento — food stylist of the Gudetama Café — will also be holding a live bento demonstration workshop to commemorate the release. It’s truly an egg lover’s dream come true.
