Powders have been out of a radar for a loooooong time. While we’ve been hankering after all the new liquid foundations and BB cushions that keep getting launched, powder foundations get relegated to the back of our makeup boxes, in favour of a more fluid finish that promise everything from glowy and dewy, to that elusive “luminous matte”.
We guess it’s because of the way powders are seen as unforgiving on dry skin, with a greater tendency to go on patchy if applied with an inexperienced hand. But it looks like with this new Yves Saint Laurent Beauty launch, powders are about to re-enter our makeup routines again.
Meet the Le Compact Encre de Peau, the newest addition to the popular Encre de Peau line that includes a liquid foundation and cushion compact. The Le Compact is essentially a cream-powder hybrid formula, that sits in the compact in a dome that compresses gently when you put a fingertip to it.
The Le Compact Encre de Peau comes in 6 shades.
The magic in the unique formula lies in YSL Beauty’s 3D Elastic Gel Technology, which gives the powder the bouncy sensation and transform the texture from that of a cream into a seamless powder upon contact with the skin, thanks to a tightening of the 3D gel structure.
It can be used both as a foundation and a finishing powder; for heavier coverage, apply the product using the included sponge in short, swiping motions. For a lighter and fresher finish, apply it in a tapping motion.
The Le Compact comes packaged in the same reflective black case as the cushion, with gold accents and the YSL Cassandre logo on the front. Basically so gorgeous that you’ll elicit lots of oohs and aahs each time you take it out for a touchup, but not like you’ll be needing much of those.
