Denim X Marks The Spot — Your Search For The Most Comfortable Pair Of Jeans Ends Here

It’s the one they sing proudly about in The Star-Spangled Banner, of freedom, opportunities and success – never mind the current political climate – and we’re pleased to know that the founding fathers’ very idealism’s at the heart of American Eagle Outfitters’ (AEO) latest campaign too. With a name like that, you’re bound to expect some sort of nationalistic pride, and true enough, the brand brings quintessential American style to our tropical shores, full of casual separates and laidback city-by-the-beach vibes. Kinda appropriate, if we must say.

This time, they’re forging ahead with the #WeAllCan campaign, a phrase that’s meant to inspire freedom of expression and the courage to pursue your own path. The faces of the motto certainly express this perfectly – you’ve got 22-year-old Internet sensation Cameron Dallas, who went from social media darling to the star of his own Netflix series Chasing Cameron, breakout starlet Alexandra Shipp, whom you might recognise as Storm from X-Men: Apocalypse, and in-the-moment model Fernanda Ly with her pink hair and edgy fashion. All these personalities are on board with AEO’s identity – young, spunky and fresh – with the right clothes that show off their empowering stature.

Of course, you can’t talk about the brand without mentioning their star product: denim jeans. It’s such a defining hallmark that everything else – accessories, clothing essentials and trendy tops – revolve around denim. The women’s collection alone has 68 unique styles of jeans so you’ll always be spoilt for choice, and these range from hi-rise jeggings to cropped jeans to vintage or low-waisted cuts.
Many of the fits are crafted with AEO Denim X, a DualFX technology by LYCRA that gives denim the ability to stretch four ways, versus the usual two-way stretch we’ve come to expect, making it much more comfortable and flattering, for everybody, really. Basically, the jeans will sit snug, hug your curves the right way, while still holding their shape over time. If you’re looking for something that’s even more of a breeze to put on, we just got word of the AEO Denim X Air, in the jegging fit, that’s an even softer denim while still retaining the properties of the original Denim X technology. Still on the hunt for the perfect pair of jeans? Well then, Denim X certainly marks the spot; your search ends here.

Before you head right over to the store though, let’s just talk you through two of the brand’s most coveted styles: the jegging, and this season’s hot trend, the vintage hi-rise.
We tried the former for ourselves, and true enough, they stretch just enough that you’ll even feel good sitting down or even after a full meal, which is spectacular since you won’t end up having to suck in the inevitable belly every time you stand up. At the same time, they’re not too loose such that you look like a walking Spongebob Squarepants, so flaunt your curves without feeling insecure.

The Jegging
One of AEO’s skinniest fits, the jeggings (jeans + leggings) deserve praise for how comfortable they feel even as they’re hugging your legs; the lightweight style and Denim X technology ensures that you can move freely while having one on. These also come with buttons and pockets so they’re totally functional, and are available in a wide array of styles – distressed denim and raw hems give off the unfussy, unfinished feel that’s a sure winner this season. We’ve been to the store a few times, and every time, we’re amazed at the wide array of styles available, so you’ll definitely be spoilt for choice.

The Vintage Hi-Rise
70s and 80s style burst forth on fashion runways since last year, and the trend isn’t dying down yet, which is why AEO has plenty of retro-style jeans options for us too. These come in bleached washes, with a matching soft colour palette across their tops and dresses, with reinvented classic silhouettes like straight cuts that are slightly tapered at the end.
And if you’re wondering what exactly to pair them with, AEO’s got options too.

This season, there’s a bit of romance mixed in with the tougher feel of 90s grunge – try off-shoulder tops with boyfriend jeans, embroidery details on denim, or, a flannel top in muted tones that adds a bit of vintage flair. At the same time, keep up with the streetwear code of sneakers and a bomber jacket.
