The Stan Smith is nothing short of a footwear icon, and a lot of that can be attributed to its versatility — thanks to a clean, minimalist aesthetic, the sneaker is one of the safest looks to rock on the street, and can even double up as a pair of semi-formal shoes should the need arise. One small problem that comes with that kind of versatility, however, is that the silhouette doesn’t exactly come across as a “fun” shoe, but it looks like Adidas is looking to change that with their latest “Summer” colourway. At this rate, we’re going to have a pair of Stan Smiths for every occasion…not that we’re complaining, of course.
Right off the bat, these Stans immediately set themselves apart from the original by switching the material up from leather to a more casual canvas, and while they still rock the classic white that the sneaker is so well known for, there’s an assortment of Summer-related graphics embroidered all over the upper that adds some much-needed personality. From seashells to starfish to popsicles, there’s a clear beach motif going on here, and the whole “fun in the sun” vibe is further cemented by a rugged looking off-white sole. We don’t need these, but we want them? Definitely.
Considering that we’re already well into Summer (when is it not Summer in Singapore though), it makes sense that the Stan Smith “Summer” is available right now, and can be bought online from retailers such as Foot District for 100 Euros. These sneakers definitely aren’t as versatile as its predecessor, but if you’re looking for a classic look with some Vans-esque attitude thrown into the mix, then these just might be the kicks for you.
