Long revered for dainty jewellery and those classic engagement rings, we’ll have you know that the latest Tiffany & Co. is just as much about pieces that we want to own — only this time, they come with a hard-hitting rebellious streak. We’re talking about Tiffany HardWear, of course, the edgy line worn by Lady Gaga who’s an apt face for this unexpected collection.
Why unexpected? Well, the line makes a departure from the more feminine styles, like the sleek Tiffany T, that we expect from this storied brand, and this time, they’re inspired by the spirit of New York City and its powerful, urban soul. What we see are chain links, padlocks and ball motifs on rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces that perfectly capture the industrialism of the vibrant city, resulting in a look that’s both clean and refined while also remaining ironically rough and tough.
Take this pair of triple drop earrings, for instance. There’s a modern, graphic allure to the piece, with the simplicity of three circles subtly shifting in scale, yet the oversized piece is daring — the balls and chains though have a more rockstar appeal. We’re also told that this was the most popular design during the VIP launch at New York, probably because Lady Gaga looks so good in it with barely-there nude makeup, and partly because it’s just way too versatile; they work, whether it’s with a leather jacket, plain jeans or a glamorous gown, so obviously we had to get those very designs right into our office for a photoshoot.
When it came down to thinking of a personality who also embodies the fierce and fearless spirit of Lady Gaga though, we naturally turned to one of our NYLON cover girls — Rozz, or, Rosalyn Lee. A familiar face as host, radio DJ at Lush 99.5FM, and presenter at Clicknetwork, you’ll know her for her unapologetic public personality, someone who makes bold choices as a person, but also in her fashion and makeup, with a “soft” side for all things black. Peer deeper, and you’ll find that the girl does reveal a lot of her more introspective side through Instagram — yes, there are shots of herself, though in professional self-portraits, but you’ll also find a treasure trove of #RozzQuotes, a platform where she shares her thoughts on anything, life-inspiring or mundane, or things that drive her, including this gem: “inspired by the fear of being average”.
It’s only apt, then, that with this many standout pieces in the Tiffany HardWear collection , all chockful of attitude, we just had to style them, kinda like what we did here…
