Instagram To Revive Chronological Feed

Instagram recently removed its GIF function on Stories, causing withdrawals from users worldwide, due to the lack of ways to express themselves in melodramatic looped animation. Yesterday, they announced that a test run for a “new posts” button is rolling on Instagram, allowing users to decide when they want to refresh their feeds.

If you’re like the many of us who’ve been affected negatively by Instagram’s algorithmic feed rollout last year — getting less likes, not receiving as many updates from friends as you’d like you, etc. — then you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised that Instagram seems to have the wherewithal to reinstate an “old” function that works better.

In a recent interview for WWD, head of fashion partnerships at Instagram, Eva Chen, explained why Instagram decided to change in the first place, “We could all follow the same five accounts, but we would each have a different feed based on how you engage with those five people.” Unfortunately, this doesn’t consider accounts we LOOK at but DON’T OFTEN ENGAGE with.
Due to many complains about the drawbacks of an algorithmic feed, Instagram has promised to roll out this feature in the coming months after it has been properly tested.
