Converse x Midnight Studios: The Ultimate Minimalist’s Sneaker

Converse has done a number of collaborations thus far, but we’ve never quite seen a collaboration like this before. Together with the designer of Midnight Studios, Shane Gonzales, Converse has released two new designs which are both reinvented, reimagined versions of their popular One Star and Chuck Taylor designs.

However, what makes this collaboration so uniquely significant is the fact that the shoes are turned inside out.  What you’ll usually find on the inside of the shoe – seams, care instructions, PAXAR labels etc. – are now displayed on the exterior of the shoe, while the logos have been placed in the interior. Together with the natural, unbleached off-white colour of the canvas as well as shoelaces printed with counterfeit production language, each shoe boasts of a minimalistic, unfinished look.

Shane Gonzales started his brand, Midnight Studios, at the young age of 19 in 2014 and is well known for his anti-aesthetic approach to fashion. So far, he’s worked with various well-known designers and brands such as OFF-WHITE, G-SHOCK, and BAUHAUS. With this collaboration, he took inspiration from Japanese design and minimalism, creating a simple yet unique design that is extremely versatile, making it a must-have sneaker in every minimalist’s collection.

Converse x Midnight Studios is now available at Dover Street Market Singapore.
