Nike’s Fanny Pack Slides – Genius Or Just Gimmicky?

You can wear your fanny pack around your waist, over your shoulder… and on your feet.

In a stroke of pure genius, Nike has combined two of the most ‘dad fashion’ items into a pair of ‘fanny pack slides’. If you couldn’t guess from the name, Nike has reworked their classic slides into this… hybrid of a footwear item that comes with a pouch that looks uncannily like a fanny pack.

The slides come in a variety of colours – neon green, pink, and black. There isn’t a release date or price yet, but Nike has said that these summer slides would ‘be dropping real soon’. Considering that Nike’s slides cost around US$20-$50, you better start putting a little cash away if you want a pair of these fanny packs for your feet.

In classic Nike fashion, the zippered compartment which has replaced the piece of rubber to hold your feet in place also sports the swoosh Nike logo. That zippered compartment is probably big enough to hold your keys, some spare cash, and you might have room to squeeze in a fun-size Snickers bar.

With the huge popularity of the cross-body bag – or fanny pack – recently, it’s no surprise that guys will love these slides. For some reason unknown, guys love all these obnoxiously ridiculous ways to tote around their knick-knacks. Having little pockets in your shoes might also be one of smartest ways to carry around your things if you don’t want to carry a bag – not only will be harder for people to pickpocket you, it’s harder to lose a shoe as compared to losing a wallet or purse. I’m not sure about you, but I’ve rarely lost a shoe in the mall whilst shopping.

After you get over the sheer genius of these shoes, there is then the question of how are you supposed to get something out of that little pocket compartment on your feet.

Do you do an Asian squat? Do you do a karate high-kick (if you’re flexible enough)? Take it off your feet and be looked at weird for holding your shoe in your hand? Fashion is not known for being too smart anyway (like this Gucci swimsuit that you should avoid swimming in).

Even though these slides look as ridiculous as they sound, there’s this little part of me that kind of really wants them.

More details for the Benassi JDI Fanny Pack will be released soon.
