Trap And Trance Reign In This Year’s Ultra Singapore Lineup

Ultra Singapore is back again this summer, and will be returning to the Ultra Park opposite Marina Bay Sands for two whole days of non-stop EDM. As one of EDM’s biggest festivals, the lineup is pretty impressive with the cream of the crop.

We were kinda hoping that Swedish House Mafia (remember the trio that was responsible for that shuffling craze back in 2011?)  would make a surprise appearance like they did at Ultra Miami, but with only Steve Angello on the bill, its probably not going to happen. We even checked Axwell /\ Ingrosso’s tour dates and they’ll be in Sweden during the Ultra Singapore weekend, so there’s pretty much 0% chance of a SHM reunion.

Ultra has promised tons of surprises, with this year being extra special because it’s their 20th anniversary. We don’t know what’s going to be in store yet, except for their lineup. Here’s the full final lineup, plus all the set times so that you can start planning your nonstop weekend rave.

Set times are sorted by stage

Just like last year, there will be three stages but with a slight difference. If you looked at the stages carefully, you’ll realise that the Live Stage has been replaced with Ultra Worldwide, complete with the overhead stage setup. For those who will be attending Ultra for the first time and know exactly what kind of genre they like, Ultra has made it easy by introducing different stages for different genres. Ultra Mainstage is where all the biggest headliners will be at, the Resistance Stage is all about techno and house music, and Ultra Worldwide sees a varied range of genres from all over the world. Singapore’s own MYRNE, who is the first ever Singaporean DJ to perform at  Ultra Miami will also be having his own set at the Worldwide stage.

If you’re into mainstream EDM like The Chainsmokers and Avicii, you’ll probably be very unfamiliar with the lineup as its filled with more trap and trance DJs this year. To guide you a little, here’s a quick rundown of who we want to catch.

DJ Snake

He was here recently for Zoukout 2017, but he’s back again to headline Ultra Singapore 2018. Expect loads of bangers like ‘Let Me Love You’ and ‘Lean On’.

Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano

For Carribean beats, punchy drums and groovy dance beats, this duo is your go-to. All you need is a chilled beer to beat the summer heat, and you’ll feel like you’re on a beach and not in the middle of CBD.

Aly & Fika

The Egyptian Duo is really popular with the trance crowd even after a decade, and made headlines in 2016 when they swore off returning to Zouk because they were told to vacate the DJ console for Malaysia’s previous prime minister Najib Razak’s youngest son, Norashman Najib. Well, trance fans can catch them now at this year’s Ultra.

Oliver Osborne

He could have spun anywhere in the world due to his UK origins, but Oliver Osborne decided to make his home in Singapore. Having played at many underground music clubs like Kilo Lounge and Kyo, Oliver Osborne returns to the Resistance Stage again this year.

ILLENIUM

Get ready for an epic set full of emotional synths and future bass with tracks fresh from rising DJ ILLENIUM’S latest album, Awake. Bassheads, dubstep ravers and trap lovers will all have something to keep them dancing. ILLENIUM’s visuals are also said to be spectacular – so there’s that to look out for as well.

NGHTMRE

Another rising DJ that I personally love too. The American DJ plays a lot with various DJs on his own tracks with an energetic eclecticism to his sound.
