With over 12 years of experience in the makeup industry, Jerome Chan is the Chief Makeup Artist for Estée Lauder’s Pro Artist team in Singapore. What sets him apart from other makeup artists is the fact that he always has a friendly smile on his face and is always willing to impart makeup tips. Jerome has collaborated with magazines, TV shows and special events (like being the MUA for Joey Mead-King!).
Despite his extensive portfolio, Jerome continues to work with great passion under his belief of the quote: “The Most Beautiful Face In The World Is Yours”.

Firstly, to achieve a long-lasting makeup effect, it is important to ensure that the skin is well prepped before make-up application; this is a key step many overlook. A key tip would be to start with eye makeup before base foundation makeup. This prevents the eyeshadow colours from flaking on to the foundation or causing any eyeshadow colour smudges, thus achieving a clean skin look!”
How would you describe your signature style as a makeup artist? Where/who do you get your inspiration from?
“I absolutely love creating looks that have ‘glass skin’ with a healthy and luminous glow. My inspiration is the everyday woman with great skin!”
What do you think sets you apart from other makeup artists? Why?
“My obsession with creating a flawless skin look that appears luminous and effortless!
I believe that every woman can be beautiful and my style is to ensure that I can help each individual gain confidence and be comfortable with herself. I take pride in helping them bring out the best version of themselves and accentuating their own unique features.”
What made you decide to become a professional makeup artist?
“My desire to help people look beautiful and feel beautiful. Seeing people leave looking and feeling great after a makeover by me gives me a great sense of fulfilment!”
What is one advice that you would give to someone who is a beginner at makeup?
“Always prep the skin, make sure to hydrate it. Start with a good primer base and complementary foundation and texture. It is important to identify the right foundation shade for the right skin tone, skin type, and climate. Always prime the skin with a lightweight moisturiser before applying makeup for a lasting effect in hot and humid climate.”
During a makeover, how do you decide on what type of look to create on a certain person?
“Definitely a combination of the person’s features, style, and personality. It really depends on the purpose of their consultation. I also like to know more about their daily lifestyle and occupation, or perhaps if the make-over is for a specific occasion. For example, if the person is looking for a daily look for work, I would definitely create a look that is versatile yet professional.”
What is your favourite Estée Lauder product, and why do you like it?
“The Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex II! It keeps my skin healthy and glowy, even with little sleep! I swear by it!”
Can you describe one popular Fall/Winter makeup trend? Which Estée Lauder products would you use to achieve it?
“It is definitely the natural beautiful and sophisticated look with a subtle tinge of eyeshadow. It’s always about achieving that healthy luminous skin look with a key feature highlighted. Lips are my favourite area to play up as a key feature for Asian women.
It could be a super nude lip seen on runways, like at the Valentino runway, or super red lips that were observed at Alexander McQueen’s and Rochas’ latest Fall Winter shows.
