The Best Beauty Things That Launched This Week

Here’s this week’s round-up of the best in beauty that’s launching soon.

111 SKIN 3 PHASE ANTI BLEMISH BOOSTER

$170 (20ml), available at robinsons

I don’t break out much, but this past month, with travel and irregular sleep, I was getting the occasional spot on my face; so this product couldn’t have come at a better time. The instructions say to apply the serum directly to the blemish, and to add 1-2 drops to regular moisturiser. For the first two days of using this, I just spread a thin layer over my entire face, dotting a little extra on blemishes that I could see and feel surfacing. This product is almost like a miracle! Just after one night, I could see my skin clearing up! All those upcoming spots became smaller and my entire skin looked smoother, fresher and younger!

Let’s break down the ingredients:

  • Willow Bark Extract that heals skin
  • Colloidal Sulphur that is anti-bacterial and reduces inflammation
  • Colloidal Silver that repairs broken skin
  • Kojac Acid that helps absorb and retain moisture in the skin
  • Hyaluronic Acid that binds moisture and keeps skin hydrated
  • Salicylic Acid that exfoliates and helps to decongest

All these ingredients are formulated into a viscous serum that spreads easily on the skin, and is absorbed very quickly. It’s a lovely texture, and it smells pleasant too — and it actually works. This little bottle is going to be a staple in my beauty box; but considering its price, I’m probably going to use it sparingly. Again, what an amazing product.

TATCHA THE SILK CANVAS
FILTER FINISH PROTECTIVE
PRIMER

$72 (20g), available on sephora.sg

I believe that primers should come in squeeze tubes or pump bottles, and be in liquid, cream or gel textures. Until I tried this one from Tatcha. The product came sealed like a food packet, so I was pleasantly surprised when it came out this beautiful pot.

I didn’t like that I had to use a spatula to scrape off a bit of product to use; by day two, the tool somehow disappeared in my makeup box, and I ended up using my fingers to swipe it straight from the pot (I know, I know, unhygienic).

But to be honest, despite the inconvenience of its size and that whole scraping thing, I did like the application process; it felt luxurious and pampering. And the texture of the primer on the skin is really like silk… it comes out a powdery lilac white, but settles into a transparent semi-matte finish. The result is a smooth base that definitely looks more even and brighter, and makes the subsequent foundation application a joy. This is the first product that I’ve tried from Tatcha, and now I understand why people are raving about the brand.

List of ingredients:

  • Uji Green Tea, which is an antioxidant
  • Okinawa Mozuku Algae that helps skin retain water
  • Akita Rice that moisturises
  • Silk Powder that provides a blurring effect on pores and wrinkles, while absorbing excess oils
  • Fibroin and Sericin, the inner and outer part of silk that also help skin hold in moisture
  • Pink and gold pearls to give a soft-focus finish

CHANEL VITALUMIÈRE GLOW
LUMINOUS TOUCH FOUNDATION

$90 (14g), available in 6 shades from 24 Aug 2018

For the past few years, Chanel has not gone wrong with their foundations (their Le Teint liquid foundation launched in March this year is excellent), and since I heard about the launch of this cushion, I’ve been looking forward to trying it.

It doesn’t disappoint. It’s soft, really soft. Just go to any Chanel beauty counter and swatch it on the back of your hand — you’ll want to buy it immediately. It’s one of those products that wins you over on the first impression. The product melts into skin, and evens it out beautifully. The finish is incredibly natural, but makes skin look softer and more awake. It gives medium coverage, but I’m pretty sure you can build it on for something heavier. It’s my favourite cushion launch of the year by far. I used to think that the cushions from Lancome, Sulwhasoo, Dior, and even La Prairie were good, but this one knocks them out of the park. It’s going to be a hard one to beat.

Ingredients include:

  • Soft Focus powders for a blurring effect
  • Colour correcting pigments to even out the complexion
  • Licorice extract to brighten skin
  • Walnut extract, which is an antioxidant
  • Hyaluronic Acid to lock in water and keep skin hydrated
  • SPF 15

KATE TOKYO FIT RARE GEL PENCIL IN BLACK

$19.90, available in 4 shades from aug 2018

The perfect eye pencil does not exist. I’ve tried them all, and they all smudge on my waterline, and I always need to touch up midday. This new one from Kate Tokyo is as good as it gets; the press release says this product “softens on touch, but hardens and ‘fits’ for a lasting effect”.

The product comes out smooth and intense, similar to the pencil liners from YSL and Charlotte Tilbury, but at just under $20, it’s more affordable than those two luxury brands.

While it doesn’t stay put on my waterline (no eyeliner does), it doesn’t smudge, and that’s the most I can hope for in a pencil liner. It’s in fact, quite waterproof. Check this out:

Bonus points for its ability to draw very clean and precise lines as well. I suspect this gel pencil is going to replace the current Sharp Lock Gel Pencil from the brand (which also appears to be on sale at Watsons).

ETUDE HOUSE
ALL OVER REFRESHING SHOWER TISSUE

$13.90 (BOX OF 10), available now at etude house stores

Isn’t a shower tissue just a wet wipe? Apparently, no — it’s a large paper cloth with ingredients that clean, deodorise, and refresh, and makes you ultimately feel like you’ve just taken a shower.

But let’s call a spade, a spade. This is really just one big wet wipe. But it’s a nice wet wipe. Etude House has included what they call a “Mint Complex”, which they say is a combination of Apple Mint, Peppermint and Spearmint. It smells good (minty, duh!), and honestly feels cool on the skin and overall refreshing; and because the sheets are packed in individual wrappers, I want to keep one in my bag at all times. Does it wipe off sweat? Yes. Is it large enough for an impromptu “wipe down” in a public restroom? Actually, yes. These are extremely handy for those trips to Universal Studios Singapore, and when I head to Tokyo at the end of this month for an outdoor photoshoot (for both me and the model!).
