5 Beauty Products Our Editor Loved This Week

This week I discovered another five beauty products that I would highly recommend to my friends. They all had immediate and impressive results for me. Read on.

YSL Touche Éclat Le Cushion SPF 50 / PA+++
$92, available in 4 shades (B10, B20, B30 & B40) from October 2017

ysl cushion

This cushion compact is unlike any other cushion I’ve ever tried; it’s a liquid / cream formula, that turns into a powder finish on skin (note that this isn’t how the brand is selling the product). It was a surprising discovery the first time I tried it, and at least for me, completely removes the need to use any powder after it. And even with a semi-matte powder finish, my skin still has a radiance to it and reflects light at the usual points like my cheekbones and nose bridge. I expected this compact to be super sheer, but it turned out to have beautiful medium coverage that lasted until the evening when I usually do a slight touch-up. I’d recommend this product for those with slightly oilier complexions. Bonus: the gold square packaging is super glam!

Three Flawless Ethereal Fluid Foundation
$75, available in 10 shades at TANGS @ Tangs Plaza

three foundation

This eight-year-old Japanese brand is known for having plant-based skincare and makeup products, and it took them long enough to come to Singapore (it’s already available in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan!). A bag full of Three finally arrived in office this past week and I have to say… the products are of excellent quality. The minimalist packaging is very attractive, and the product textures are beautiful. In particular, the liquid foundation surprised me from the first pump; it’s a lovely fluid foundation that has a very light texture, and glides over skin like silk. It smoothes the skin’s surface, but you can’t see the product at all! It’s there, but it’s invisible. And I’ve tried A LOT of liquid foundations in my life, and I still get amazed when a truly good one comes along — and this is one of those times when I will tell my friends to BUY! BUY! BUY! This foundation made my skin look satiny smooth, and it stayed that way the entire day! What a find.

FENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer
$48, buy now at sephora.sg

fenty beauty primer

Everyone in office was dying to try Rihanna’s new beauty brand and I can totally see why; the packaging is very pretty (millennial pink!), and hey, it’s Rihanna! I grabbed this primer because of its wonderful name: “Pro!”, “Filter!”, “Instant!”, “Retouch!”… what a great name. And it didn’t disappoint. It comes out a silky smooth translucent cream that works as a wonderful soft, matte base for foundation application. Like its description on Sephora’s website, it does indeed feel light and very comfortable, and I love the fact that the brand is 100% cruelty free (as all brands should really be). To be honest, the texture and finish of this product reminded me of another primer that I love — Marc Jacobs Beauty Coconut Primer — but this one is about $20 cheaper.

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Advanced Day Cream
$90, available September 2017 at Jurlique Plaza Singapura and Takashimaya S.C.

jurlique

I’ve been using Jurlique’s Balancing Day Care Cream for years and it has been doing wonders for my skin; mainly, it keeps my skin hydrated, clear and blemish-free, and those are the basic things that one can really hope for in a moisturiser. This new day cream from the brand sounds like an improved version of my favourite moisturiser, but it comes in a jar (less hygienic; I prefer a squeeze tube), and has a softer texture which I really like. As expected from Jurlique, the smell of this product is amazing! It has a calming, natural aromatherapy scent (there are 18 botanicals!), and a super soft cream texture that quickly absorbs into the skin. After just a single use of this cream, my skin looks and feels calmer and more plump. This really is a lovely moisturiser though a bit pricey. But I always advise: invest in your face; invest in your skincare. And be informed. You can see the full list of natural ingredients here

Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Creamy Mask
$148 for 5 sheets, buy now at zalora.sg

sulwhasoo mask

I love Sulwhasoo’s First Care Activating Mask, and finished my box not long ago, so was really looking forward to trying this other one from the brand. I cracked it open last night and the first thing that hit me was the strong smell of ginseng. Even after the 20 minutes of masking, my room had a lingering ginseng smell for a good hour more. Strong smell aside, this mask has a sturdy sheet that is very easy to apply, and believe it or not, the creamy white serum actually lightened my skin tone! I kept staring in the mirror and thought I looked white (NOTE: I rubbed in the serum after removing the mask and it does have a slightly white hue). But hey… the next day when I woke up, my skin looked brighter! More radiant! Glowy! Wow, I’d use this every night if not for the recommended twice a week instructions, and yeah… the price.
