Pharrell Gets Inspired By Holi For Latest Collection With adidas Originals

We cannot find any fault with Pharrell Williams. The super talented music artist and producer has produced numerous Grammy-winning tunes and chart toppers, founded a non-profit organisation, called From One Hand To AnOTHER (FOHTA) for less privileged children and has used his influence and fashion to try and make our world a better place, like the Hu Collection with adidas Originals.
Pharrell is doing it again with his latest collection with adidas Originals. As an extension of the original Hu Collection which celebrates the human race, the Hu Holi capsule collection took inspiration from the traditional Hindu Holi festival that takes place every Spring in India.

All the pieces are created with a powder-dyeing technique which makes each piece entirely unique! The collection includes track suits, T-shirts, shorts and footwear, like Stan Smiths and Tennis Hu PKs. The powder-dyeing technique results in a beautiful subtle tie-dye/ombre effect on the apparel and footwear which gives a little twist and a more artistic take on the adicolor SS18 collection that adidas Originals released in January.

This is not the first time that the festival of colours has been a source of inspiration. The Colour Run, dubbed “The Happiest 5k On The Planet”, was also inspired by the Spring festival, celebrating each kilometre that runners complete by showering them with coloured powder.
Not only did this collection take inspiration from the vibrant country of India, it also features Indian models as campaign models, celebrating their wonderful culture and colourful heritage. It seems like common sense that people native to the culture are chosen to model and represent the products that were inspired by their heritage.
However, the entertainment industry and Asian societies are notorious for white-washing preferring lighter skin so we’re heartened to see that Pharrell has chosen to feature Indian models of darker skin tones. We told you that Pharrell is perfect, didn’t we?

What’s even better is that the collection will be first released on adidas Originals web store and select stores in India on 2 March, before arriving globally 2 weeks later. That’s the way to pay homage to a culture. We’re crossing our fingers that we will be able to get our hands on the collection at our local adidas stores, without any fights occurring, of course.
The Pharrell Williams X adidas Originals Hu Holi collection will be available online at adidas Originals web store, from 2 March.
