Lacoste is proof that fashion doesn’t have to be trendy to be good, their crocodile logo Polo Tees have been a wardrobe staple for many a dapper gentlemen cruising their convertibles on the weekend. While it’s natural to be skeptical of anything a big brand does, Lacoste’s latest capsule collection just seems to hit the nail on the head when it comes to addressing environmental issues with fashion.
To promote awareness surrounding animal endangerment, Lacoste have released 10 new Polo Tee designs,by replacing their historic crocodile logo for the species they have chosen to highlight that are on the brink of extinction, namely: the Vaquita Dolphin, Burmese Roofed Turtle, Northern Sportive Lemur, Javan Rhino, Cao Vit Gibbon, Kakapo Parrot, California Condor, Saola, Sumatran Tiger and Anegada Ground Iguana. What more, they’ve produced each design in the quantity relative to how many animals of that species are still alive today. Not only have they emphasised the immediacy of this environmental issue in a “limited” edition capsule collection, they’ve successfully drawn our attention back to their classic croc.
Lacoste Save Our Species
The collection, launched during the recent FW18 Paris Fashion Week, is in conjunction with the International Union For Conservation Of Nature’s Save Our Species Programme. Costing USD185 per Polo Tee (update: sold out), proceeds from this collection will directly benefit the organisation’s efforts to combat extinction.
