4 Makeup Looks to Try This Weekend

By Adele Chan
I was a guest judge on the recent season of Asia’s Next Top Model, and on that final episode, I decided on Maureen as the winner of the contest and to feature on the cover of NYLON’s July 2017 issue. Shikin Gomez from Malaysia was one of the finalists, and her fans left many, many comments (not good ones) on both my personal Instagram account, and on NYLON Singapore’s as well. And I don’t blame them — Shikin is every bit a winner in the modelling game; and with the backing and fame that the show has brought her, she has a really good start. This past week when I heard that she was in town, I knew she was the perfect face to showcase this season’s coolest makeup trends.

Holographic Glow

This high fashion holographic look was spotted on the runway at the Valentino SS18 show, and it is easier to recreate than you think. On the eyes, Greg-O used a bold pink and a warm terracotta orange for depth; and extended the highlight from the high points of the cheeks to the eyelids for an intense iridescent finish.
Products used:
NYX Strobe of Genius Holographic Stick in Mermaid Armour US$9
Clé de Peau Beauté Luminizing Face Enhancer in Pastel $140
Urban Decay X Kristen Leanne Kaleidoscope Dream Eyeshadow Palette in Spitfire and Tajin $65

Line by Colour

Upgrade the simple cat-eye with just a bold, neon colour. And if you’d like to take the look a step further, Greg-O recommends creating a graphic eye instead of the classic flick.
Product used:
Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner in A-Go-Go, $28

Pastel Lashes

Pastel colours are not just hot in fashion but in makeup looks as well. Here, Greg-O creates a pastel eyeshadow winged shaped for a finished look that takes minimal effort. He tops it off with coloured mascara on just the lower lashes. The result is colourful and definitely a lot of fun.
Products used:
3INA The Colour Mascara in 104, $19
3INA Pastel Eyeshadow Palette in 103 Pastel Blue, $29

Matte Ombre

Whether it’s on your hair, clothes or lips, the ombré effect is always an elegant way to play with colour. Greg-O created a sunset-inspired lip, focusing the red at the edges of the lips and placing the brighter orange in the middle. And remember: the trick to a seamless fade is really just in blending.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle in Saw-C, $28
PopStar Cosmetics Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in Hilary, $23.84
