The Crazy Rich Asians Trailer Is Finally Here And You Need To Watch it

If you weren’t one of the privileged few to be extras on the set of Crazy Rich Asians last year, then you’ll be delighted to know that we can finally get our first look at this lavish story. The Singapore-based story features an all-Asian cast (yay for representation!), starring Fresh Off The Boat star Constance Wu, action star Michelle Yeoh and TV host/presenter Henry Golding. This is Golding’s first-ever movie but if you’re wondering why he seems so familiar, we’ve featured him a couple of times and he’s also the hubby of our NYLON cover girl, Liv Lo!

The trailer was exclusively released on The Ellen Show, when Constance Wu and Henry Golding made their first talkshow appearance, yesterday. In classic Ellen fashion, she treated the audience to shirtless pictures of Golding’s toned body and gifted them with gift cards and vouchers. One lucky fan even won a 6D5N round-trip to Singapore and a stay at Marina Bay Sands. We’re a bit bitter about it because most of us, Singaporeans, won’t even get to experience a stay at MBS, unless we spend a bomb.

The trailer features our iconic city skyline and over-the-top Gatsby-esque parties that make us wonder: do these parties really happen on our sunny island home? Nevertheless, Singapore looks exceptional in this trailer, making us a little more proud of our tiny red dot. Take a look for yourselves.

Besides the trailer, there isn’t anything else to feed our desperation for more Crazy Rich Asians, especially if we’ve already read the book a couple of times, from cover to cover. As we’re edging closer to the title’s release date on 16 August, we suggest following the stars’ Instagram accounts for a little behind the scenes action.
Constance Wu (@constancewu) gives her fans a peek behind the curtains, updating them on fittings, shoots, events and social issues that she’s passionate about.

Although we didn’t get a Singaporean lead in this movie, Malaysia’s veteran action star Michelle Yeoh (@michelleyeoh_official) plays Eleanor Young (Nick’s mum) which is close enough. She shared group photos of the Asian cast with her 42.7k Instagram followers while she was filming here, last July. Forget about keeping up with the Kardashians, we need to keep up with Yeoh! She’s constantly sharing about her various movies, projects (Star Trek!) and social messages about the environment, people and her jet-setting adventures.

Because this is Henry Golding’s first acting gig, he’s been keeping us updated with loads of behind-the-scenes snaps on his Instagram account (which we’ve been secretly stalking for a while now).

Apart from the Asian American/British actors, our eagle-eyed team also spotted local veteran actors Tan Kheng Hua and Selena Tan in the trailer! There are also tons of local actors that make cameos in the film so keep an eye out for them when it’s screened in the cinemas. #supportlocal
The movie is coming out 22 August which is further than we would like but there are quite a few amazing summer movies coming out like Avengers: Infinity War and Incredibles 2 to tide you over till then.
Crazy Rich Asians will screen in Singapore cinemas from 22 August.
