Deadpool 2 Has Killed The Marketing Game. Here Are Some Of Our Favourite Promotional Content For The Movie

It’s the official release day of Deadpool 2 in Singapore (although it seems like some people have caught it already) and all of us (above 18) have our popcorn ready for a laughing good time. In the week leading up to the movie’s world premiere, the Deadpool team has surprised the world again and again with genius marketing ploys. We were skeptical that they could top the stunts pulled by its predecessor but we are delighted that we were proven wrong.
We think that the team deserves an award for their marketing strategies and here are a few examples why:

David Beckham and Hugh Jackman Made Cameos

You know they ain’t playing when they’ve got A-list celebrities to appear in their promo videos – it’s not even the movie itself. What’s more genius is that they actually linked the David Beckham promotional video back to the 2016 Deadpool movie and used its predecessor to promote the sequel! They’re genius.

Football fans also got in on the Deadpool action

After David Beckham, The Red Devils became the next target for Deadpool promotions, revamping their kits with all things Deadpool. Although Jose Mourinho doesn’t make an appearance in this bit, you still get to see your favourite Manchester United players, like Juan Mata, Michael Carrick, Luke Shaw and Alexis Sanchez.
Even if you’re not a Man U fan, you have to admit, this was genius.

He brought his sarcasm to late night satire

If you’re looking for sarcastic jokes and shady comments, talk shows, like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, are the ones you should be tuning in to. That’s why when Deadpool made a surprise appearance during Colbert’s monologue, we found ourselves wondering: why doesn’t Deadpool get his own talkshow?
The anti-super hero did not miss a chance to leave subtle yet brutal insults during the monologue (well, I guess it’s a dialogue now…). Watch for yourselves:

He took over Walmart

Deadpool is all about himself. It’s always “Me, me and more me” when it comes to the Spiderman wannabe. We’re kidding, we really love Deadpool, no matter how self-centred he is. The team put his face all over the movie section in Walmart, replacing Blu-Ray DVD covers of other movies with their own revamped version. If we saw this, we would snap it up straight away. Nobody buys DVDs anymore but think of the amount of money we’ll make when this turns into a collector’s item.

And rode the K-Wave

We’d least expect Deadpool to compete in a singing contest, let alone one in Korea. But during Deadpool’s Korea press trip, he made an appearance on MBC’s King Of Masked Singer, where he sang “Tomorrow” from the musical, Annie. Technically, Ryan Reynolds made the appearance but let’s be honest, we can’t tell the two apart anymore. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool and Deadpool is Ryan Reynolds.
The Koreans had a priceless reaction when they saw that the Canadian hottie was behind the unicorn mask and we’re sure we would have had the same reaction, if not a crazier one , if we were there too.

There is a lot of Marvel “love”

Being a self-aware character who constantly breaks the 4th wall, Deadpool often makes jabs at the other Marvel super heroes even though they don’t appear in the same movie or in the same universe. Well, he got a taste of his own medicine when The Avengers’ own Master of Sarcasm, Iron Man, rejected Deadpool’s request to join the elite force of super heroes.

It’s okay, we know Deadpool is better on his own anyway. Marvel Studios isn’t the only one with 10 years of success. Here’s Deadpool’s first 10 years:

The Deadpool characters transcend into real life

Because the Deadpool consistently breaks the 4th wall in the movie, it doesn’t feel forced when the characters appear in real life, like these LinkedIn and Twitter accounts we found that belonged to X-Force’s only human member, Peter. Since he’s just a normal person like all of us, it’s obvious that he would have his own LinkedIn (because jobs are important) and a Twitter account where he constantly updates us about his fear of swans and love of bees.

We only mentioned a few of our favourites but the marketing team promoting Deadpool has churned out tons of genius content that perfectly embodies the movie’s tone and direction. We’ve already bought our tickets to catch the movie over the weekend and we’re sure we won’t be disappointed.
Deadpool 2 is currently showing in local cinemas.
