Red Velvet Reveal Their Beauty Secrets And Makeup Tips

Kpop group Red Velvet broke into the music scene with their versatile music sound, which is a mix of R&B and catchy pop music. This duality is also reflected in their styling, and it’s hard to pin down the “Red Velvet look”. The girls aren’t exactly sexy or innocent; they exude dark, haunting vibes despite bright, pastel colours, especially seen in their music videos. While we were in Seoul recently for Etude House‘s Sweet Dreams Tour, we had the chance to meet up with Red Velvet who just happen to be the Korean beauty brand’s latest ambassadors.

Of course the moment Red Velvet walked in, we couldn’t think of anything else except how gorgeous the girls were. We managed to get them to spill all their makeup and skincare tips that they swear by to help you nail the “Red Velvet look”!

1. Pink is great for a daily makeup look

For a daily look, we usually want something that looks more natural or a lighter makeup look. Yeri likes wearing pink on and off stage because pink is loved by everyone and it’s a very universally flattering colour that works on a lot of people. Even Wendy likes wearing a lip colour with a slight touch of pink to make it suitable for springtime, which just so happens to be our season all year round.

2. Pair dark lipstick shades with light eye makeup for the ultimate statement look

Dark lip colours can be hard to pull off as it might come across as too gothic or scary. Seulgi created a dark burgundy shade as her colour for the Matte Chic Lip Lacquer collection, and says, “it may be a hard colour to pull off since it’s such a dark shade, but I usually like to have light makeup on my eyes and pair it with a statement lip – but you can see that the end result isn’t too strong; it’s very chic and sultry.” The key here is to balance.

3. It’s all in the lashes

No patience for falsies because they can be tricky to apply? Be like Yeri and perfect your mascara so that you can easily swipe and go. It’s a skill that you’ll be thankful for everyday, and you’ll look just as fabulous even when you’ve forgotten your falsies.

4. Dab your lipstick on the inside of your lips for a more natural look

A highly pigmented lipstick can be too strong for a natural look, and Joy recommends dabbing it on the inside of your lips. “It’s a great to wear if you have no makeup on and still want to have that natural look – especially when you’re in front of your boyfriend!”

5. Remember to remove it all when you’re done!

As important as it is to select your makeup products, it is just as important to remove all your makeup thoroughly to keep your skin healthy. For those who tend to breakout a lot, Wendy recommends using a cleansing water instead of a cleansing oil as it is much lighter and smoother on your skin. Skincare wise, Joy likes the Soon Jung line from Etude House as it is very gentle on the skin.

6. Don’t underestimate the power of facial masks

Facial masks are like quick, temporary fixes that we often overlook. When Seulgi was filming for Law In The Jungle out in the wild, her skin suffered from prolonged exposure in the sun. Thankfully Etude House sent over some facial masks to help soothe her skin. Sheet masks are also pretty convenient for traveling, so always pop a couple in your suitcase!
