Those who have rocked Jason Wu’s designs include drag superstar RuPaul and the former United States of America first lady Michelle Obama. And soon, it could be you.
Fashion designer and artist Jason Wu has recently worked with Sometime by Asian Designers, a Malaysian bag specialist, to release an affordably stylish tote bag collection Edie that will be sold on ZALORA. And we all know that ZALORA is filled with affordable buys (thanks to the promo codes), so this is certainly one affordable designer collection to look forward to.
“I agreed on this project on so many levels. I love collaborations, and I’ve done many in my career. With this, it’s not just about Jason Wu GREY, Sometime by Asian Designers, and ZALORA. Everyone knows we know how to buy, but what they need to know is we also know how to make. That is something I am proud to share with the world. It’s very impressive, and that is my goal.” said Wu.
Coming from Wu’s more casual brand, the designer mentioned that he drew inspiration from the square paintings of Josef Alber, creating a sleek colour block tote that merges both form and function. Three compartments within allow you to keep all your knick-knacks, which are kept safe and snug by a magnetic hardware at the mouth of the tote.

And while the design might look minimalist, the process was anything but. More than 15 prototypes were created before finally settling on the final iteration. In fact, the final design of Edie was only decided a few months back in February.
Made with vegan leather, Edie will come in six colours — Slipper, Soft Pink, Crème, Orange, Mustard, and a Taiwan exclusive Ultramarine (in honour of Wu’s birthplace). With its simple shape and roomy capacity, we reckon that this bag will transition from work to leisure with ease. And the best part? Its price tag that won’t burn a hole in your pocket — the Mini goes for $149; Large $199.
