There’s a New Don Don Donki Outlet at 100am Mall

Japan popular discount chain Don Quixto will be opening their second store, and this time, it’s located in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD) area.

Situated at 100AM Mall near the Tanjong Pagar MRT, the second outlet hopes to provide busy professionals working around the area with a convenient place to shop.

“With each Don Don Donki store that we open, we aim to retain the essence of the Donki shopping experience while also adapting the store’s offerings to the unique needs of the customers in the area,” said the director of Pan Pacific International Holdings Hideki Okada in a press release. It represents Don Quixto’s holding company for overseas operations.

As part of its new offerings, the second outlet will have an exclusive ‘Japan Mobile Foods’ corner featuring on-the-go items suitable for the busy lunch crowd.

Rainbow cotton candy ($5.50)

The menu offered at the ‘Japan Mobile Foods’ corner were designed with the CBD worker in mind—most food can be consumed with one hand, allowing them to reply emails or take calls with the other. These include rice rolls, original blend coffee, and of course, their famous baked sweet potato.

Fruit juices here are made with Japanese fruits with no sugar added, with flavours that rotate daily. The watagashi, or cotton candy, can hardly be considered as a convenient snack, but the fruity flavours make it a great mid-day treat (and perfect Instagram prop).

Other items to look out for include the yakitomorokoshi (grilled sweet corn with soy-glaze), takosen (octopus takoyaki sandwiched between crackers), and gelato made from Hokkaido milk (our favourite!).

And true to their discount chain roots, prices are kept affordable, with most items ranging from $1 to $5.90.

Everything from the usable to questionable.
The future of soft drinks is clear.

At 100AM mall, the new Don Don Dinki outlet spans across two levels. Level three is dedicated to food and groceries, while level two will house cosmetics, electronics, fashion, and snacks.

The total space of 1,186 square meters might be smaller than the flagship Somerset outlet, but don’t worry—it’s still big enough to satisfy all your shopping needs.

In true Don Don Donki fashion, we were able to find items that were both useful and not-so-useful. There’s a whole range of transparent water (from $1.90; it’s hard to keep up with the various varieties these days), exercise equipment, household items, and weird beauty products. We even spotted a small section of sex toys (wonder how long will they be there before someone complains).

Do note that the outlet here is not operational for 24 hours; it closes at midnight daily, which is still plenty of time to squeeze in some late-night shopping.

The second outlet will open its door officially tomorrow (14 Jun) from 10am. As part of their opening day, look forward to a slew of giveaways, spend-and-win promotions, and a chance to catch Donpen (their mascot) live.
